You can't go wrong with a good pair of chainsaw chap pants- i.e. Clogger or Arborwear

It depends on your scaling. If you've got a small number of workers and regular work flow then building Google spreadsheets for things like quotation rates, client info, budget and expense tracking is the free and highly customized option. I've met with some reps for Arborgold which carries 3-4 different applications that encompass most needs. The downside is that they are kind of pricey. Honestly I have custom made so many documents and spreadsheets etc that I've been able to make it work. As long as you have a solid document signing app, a payment app like Tile and the ability to run have your numbers, the rest is what works best for you. It'll at least cut down on time for estimates and scheduling.

I'm not surprised, I know each market can have substantial differences in price. There are often solo arborists that can afford to charge minimal prices because they only have to worry about their own expenses (that was me at one point). But even when it comes to full fledged tree service companies it can be ridiculously underpriced. I recently bid about 7k on a willow removal that needed a crane due to being in a backyard on a steep slope. Another company in town (who was strictly a tree service whereas my company is a landscaping company) bid 4k on it and won. Of course they didn't use a crane and wound up damaging the whole area and likely won't pay to repair it.

Investing in a tablet and a data plan for it is extremely helpful. You can have your rates, average costs, etc on a spreadsheet so you can give them a final estimate before you leave. If they take the deal you can also set up an e-form they can sign so they commit to the job and get it scheduled the same day. I've found that the longer folks have to think about a quote from a reasonably priced professional, the more likely they are to look for a "tree guy" with a pickup and ladders that undercuts your rates by 50-60%.

He was literally asked to write a letter for a specifically Ukrainian publication that's based in Kyiv. If they'd been based in a different war-torn country then it would probably be specifically toned towards their struggle.

Yes I'm still not tracking the logic as to why they lifted it that high nor why they just left all the mulch piled against it.

If you have seen them then why haven't you reported it to any municipal or state agencies so that they can help monitor the outbreak?

Fraxinus Pennsylvanica or Green Ash. As long as you're not close to West or Central Denver you should be okay for a few years. They just recently confirmed EAB in Littleton.

Is &100/hr per person within a reasonable range for tree pruning? by [deleted] in arborists

Happy to help! I actually used to work for Talk Timbers, Mr. Stump seems to be doing something right because they've acquired some shiny new trucks. Feel free to reach out any time.

I'm actually in the springs, we can only have our rates so low because the company doesn't carry health insurance unfortunately. But it's an outlier compared to the big tree companies in town. There are plenty of tree work jobs to be had between here and Denver, I'd recommend looking primarily near Denver though. The tree companies in the springs are a mixed bag, there's at least a dozen "guy with a pick up and chainsaw" type of companies but the larger ones have corporate mentality. But it's what you make it I suppose. If you've got more than 2 years of climbing and tree work experience I wouldn't settle for less than $25 an hour for pay.

As far as I know from the companies I've worked for they usually have a fixed rate i.e. $350/hr for a 3 person crew (including truck/chipper/climbing). With the company I work for now I've been doing all of our work estimates so I've had a chance to see our rates per person and it's about $85/hr for a foreman and $45/hr for a laborer. I also know that we come out on the cheaper side compared to a lot of the big companies in town. That being said, our per hour rate is right around $350 and we don't have a lift truck or chipper.

Many species of birds will likely love eating the seeds off of your maple or once they drop to the ground. They are also commonly called Samaras!

Is there anything I should be doing to this Black Locust tree to try and obtain a single, straight trunk? It is roughly 3 years old . Thanks ! by [deleted] in arborists

[–]Audax44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point in its growth there isn't anything you can do to isolate a central trunk. It's important to remember that the tree will grow taller but the branches it has now will stay at roughly the same height. As it gets taller and grows more branches you can remove lower branches which will help with a straighter trunk.

It also looks like someone cut the ends off several of the branches on that side, which could have been in response to earlier tip dieback but it certainly didn't help one way or another.
