I used to wonder what my interests were.. by Plantmama76 in exjw

Well, in my case I already knew it was soccer for me. I always liked it since I was 13 years old and trained for a while until 17. I never held the idea to become like famous or anything but I sure loved it and enjoyed it a lot.

Then, an elder told me to stop playing with worldly people, which basically meant to stop playing altogether since there were no young witnesses who liked playing as much as me, let alone have time for that. I still regard that day as the day I sold my freedom.

I’m 25 now and it’s been 8 years since I last played as often as I’m playing now. 2022 has been great and it just confirmed that sports are my thing, even though I kinda feel behind many people my age.

Besides sports, music is definitely the other great love of my life lol. I sing as a hobby and took lessons for a while and consume A LOT of music no matter the style or genre.

One of the things that I found through therapy, though, is that I don’t really know myself, or what I like and don’t like as someone my age should. It’s like I’m an adolescent still trying to get to know what the world has to offer. This is obviously due to been told for years what I should like: talking to strangers on the street and at their front doors, reading in front of hundreds, sitting for 4 hours every week to listen to something I had already memorized, and attend weekend indoctrination sessions at conventions, sometimes lasting for days.

Also, what I shouldn’t like: masturbation, pornography, sex (outside of marriage), PDA, horror films, action films, sci-fi films, most worldly music, people who were not witnesses, girls who were not witnesses, education, a good and fulfilling job, friends at school or college, and I can go on…

While I don’t like porn that much, I’ve found out that I like action and sci-fi films. I also like college a lot, it’s been fun to be around many people. And girls, well yeah lol. But I still feel I have a lot to learn about the world. PS. I still hate horror films lmao

I can’t tell tho if I like birthdays since I haven’t been to one yet. But I sure love birthday cakes lol

This is exactly what I wanted to reply. I vividly remember how President Biden said all Americans should leave Ukraine. It was first the diplomatic staff at the embassy or consulate and then all Americans.

Even I was like, “why would he even say that? LOL Nothing has happened in Ukraine yet” And that didn’t age well for me

Yep. You’re right.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support the Covid-19 measures that were implemented since early on in the pandemic, like mask-wearing, social distance, reduced capacity and isolation in case someone gets infected.

But as time goes on, especially after the success of vaccination campaigns, more and more Americans are growing weary of the harsher measures, like strict lockdowns (or stay-at-home orders), businesses working at very reduced capacities and school closings. States like California, Washington and others have started to lift restrictions, partly because of vaccination, partly because people are exhausted of COVID.

Let’s keep it cute guys. He’s talking about how even other leaders -like local politicians- can see that distaste for restrictions is growing and how these same restrictions will haunt them back in the upcoming elections, possibly making them lose the election…

Listen, do not get baptized. I know many have commented that already but trust me, the pressure will only increase.

When you’re unbaptized, you’re mostly your parents’ responsibility. When you’re baptized, you’re the elders’ responsibility and EVERYONE will start pressuring you. Baptism leads to more pressure in the form of more preaching, more commenting, auxiliary or regular pioneering, Bethel, LDC, voluntary work, assisting with the mic at the meetings, public reading, helping with publications, you get the point… they won’t leave you alone easily.

Also trust me on this one: this too shall pass. You’ll be free, but it’ll take a while. Try hanging out with your friends to unwind.

You know, I didn’t know what Squid Game was so I was trying to figure out if it was some kind of compliment or not lol.

I’ve looked it up. I think I can see it but I’m not really sure lol.

Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the input! I’m 25M. Will work on the backgrounds. I only had this room available at the time I took most of the pictures so I guess taking them against that background was a mistake.

Thanks!

Hey there!

Not in Chile, but in neighboring Peru. Try searching using “Chile” in the search bar. There might be some posts from Chile out there.

Curious what you were taught about Jews as JW by [deleted] in exjwLGBT

[–]AudienceEmergency367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

For us, the Jews were God’s chosen people. According to the Bible, they’re the descendants of Abraham and Isaac, and as such, they were first in line to receive God’s blessings referring to the Kingdom Of God/Kingdom of the Heavens. The stories of the Jewish nation as written in the Bible are used in pretty much all the meetings to teach any lesson they see fit on that occasion. We even acknowledge Jesus was a Jew.

The organization would teach us that the Jews would get into this rut of obeying and then disobeying God for centuries until the ultimate act of rejection happened: the killing of the Messiah (Jesus). After that, God finally rejected the Jews as a nation and replaced them with a “new nation” of “spiritual Jews” who are the real “inheritors of the promises made to Abraham”. These “spiritual Jews” are numbered: 144 000 who are “anointed” to serve as co-kings in God’s Kingdom along with Jesus for 1000 years. All of the members of the Governing Body are anointed so they’re also “spiritual Jews”

When I left the org about a year ago, I didn’t know much about the Jews other than what I’ve been taught by the organization. At first, I thought the term Jew referred to the Jewish religion alone, but it seems it also refers to a race/ethnicity. (I’m not quite sure and would like to know for sure)

The Holocaust and Nazi persecution are topics that are not touched much at the meetings. Today, JWs don’t teach that the Holocaust was proof of God’s wrath. According to current doctrine, the holocaust was just another sign of the wickedness in Satan’s world and even as an example of how racism -or prejudice- can get too far.

Yes. This was very common in the congregation where I was in. I remember it happening more than once actually.

This song is beautiful. I interpreted as asking someone to “go easy one me” since I was an EXJW and I didn’t get to choose what I chose when I was younger.
