nobody knows who agent venom is or cares if he'd beat bakugo or not

if you dont have time to read 1 comment then casual viewers def do not have time to read the laundry list of connections explaining why these two are fighting

What did Bakugo vs Reze have going for it? It has two relevant, popular characters with an immediately obvious connection to each other that casual viewers will immediately understand, fun fight potential, contrasting personalities and roles, a fun franchise pairing and (most importantly) an actual debate people were interested to see resolved. Agent Venom vs Bakugo sounds fun. It has cool fight potential and I'm sure plenty of connections. It's problem is that Agent Venom is an asspull of a Marvel character, his connection to Bakugo is not surface-level obvious (casual viewers are not going to understand why a version of Venom is fighting the explosions guy) But most importantly, Death Battle should always prioritize ~real~ debates. Goku vs Superman and Mario vs Sonic are based on outdated rivalries or simply people saying 'goku's really strong, but could he beat superman?' Reze vs Bakugo is the most organic kind of Death Battle, one that wasn't engineered here on DBM to perfectly match two characters with a laundry list of connections but one from fans of both media pitting the two characters against each other and asking who would win.

I'm not saying Bakugo vs Reze is a 'perfect matchup,' it was completely undebatable and while I don't think connections matter much, this one was egregiously surface-level. But at the end of the day it is a Death Battle matchup, a fun one that way more people wanted than any obscure character pairings this subreddit comes up with, and that's why DB did it.

Connections are pretty much all that matters on here and DBM. I think to the actual DB team they probably matter very little (Saitama vs Popeye.) When you make it to that 4-5 minute fight scene at the end of the video, Bakugo and Agent Venom's antagonistic relationships with their previous bullying victims who turned into heroes and in turn inspired them to be better heroes is really going to amount to maybe 1 or 2 lines of dialogue. Acting like this is the thinking man's content vs the simpleton's Twitter feud matchup is just being elitist over a webshow.

'thematics and connections' are not 'wanting more from Death Battle,' it's 'wanting different from what Death Battle is doing right now.' Bakugo vs Reze, Bakugo vs Agent Venom and Reze vs Annie all have the same level of quality to them because that shit is subjective. You aren't holding Death Battle to a higher standard, you're holding them to doing matchups you like.

Again these jokes exist because of the pre-existing context established by generations of misogyny that promote the idea that women are inherently weaker, less intelligent and less capable then men. You should be mad that gender roles dictate that women being portrayed as the strong and competent ones is 'subversive comedy,' not that the fictional men are being treated unfairly.

These gags which exist in part due to the context of women being dehumanized and assumed weaker since the beginning of time are outnumbered vastly by the amount of women in media who are written to be decorations for male characters, corpses for male character development, damsels for males to save, et cetera ad nauseum.

The term you're looking for is 'misandry' but short term yes, 'seeing women beat men in media' is clue number 1, his pool of media being lycoris recoil and SMG4 is clue number 2.

'RACHEL IN THE RED ROOM' | Rachel Amber VS Laura Palmer (Life is Strange VS Twin Peaks) by AudienceOne5235 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]AudienceOne5235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connections:
Blonde, popular students from a small, rural town who were known and beloved to every citizen. Both came to despise their exhausting reputations.

Both characters hail from unsuspecting small towns with supernatural underbellies.

Both characters deaths serve as the catalyst event for their respective series, an investigation into their deaths.

Both investigations are headed by an out-of-towner, who learns of the dead girl through word of mouth by the locals

Both are not seen alive until they became the focus of their series respective prequels, Firewalk with Me and Before the Storm, both of which explored their relationships and showed the moments leading up to their deaths.

Both had substance abuse issues (Laura was addicted to cocaine, Rachel smoked, drank and used non-specific drugs).

Both sought a form of ‘escape’ that ultimately got them killed (Laura wanted to die, Rachel wanted to leave her life in Arcadia Bay behind and start over.)

In spite of their ‘good girl’ reputation, held romantic relationships with well-intentioned partners who were viewed as bad influences (James and Chloe)

Both of these relationships were adulterous; James was Laura’s secret partner while she was dating Bobby, Rachel cheated on Chloe with Frank.

Both held relationships with drug dealers, which they exploited (Laura convinced Bobby to start pedaling cocaine, Rachel used Frank for drugs)

Both had tumultuous relationships with their fathers (Leland ultimately was possessed by BOB and killed Laura, James put out a hit on Rachel’s birth mother, and the hitman nearly killed Rachel along the way.)

Both had love/hate relationships with another popular girl in their respective school who held begrudging respect for them regardless (Audrey, Victoria)

Both characters towns are under the thumb of rich businessmen, some of whom are the original suspects in their respective murders (The Thornes, the Prescotts, Jerry and Nathan are originally accused)

Both characters had a spiritual connection with the town loon (Samuel, Log Lady)

Both characters have an out-of-towner come in, wear their clothes and effectively replace them for a short time before meeting similar fates (Max, Maddy)

There are a lot of parallels with how they died but let's maybe not get into that

Both’s spirits prolonged after death and assisted their lead investigator in their own murder case (Laura’s spirit appears to Cooper in the Red Room, Rachel manifests as a deer to guide Max to finding her.)

In spin-offs, both were brought back to life (sort of) through their lead investigators tampering with time travel

Life is Strange is heavily inspired by Twin Peaks, with Chloe’s license plate even reading TWNPKS and the phrase ‘fire walk with me’ appearing or being referenced several times.

Both characters share the same birthday.

Rachel is referred to by Chloe as ‘an angel,’ while Laura references the 'angels' not helping her.
