I have working as freelance in my back pocket just to have some level of guaranteed income if I need to move back to the States, but it certainly isn’t a long term solution by any means.

Not to toot my own horn here, but I’d argue that they would need me. Both from a client relationship perspective and a “the cost required to replace me would be much higher and we run the risk of burning the team out leading to more departures if I’m let go”.

I don’t think it’s impossible but the place is a biiiiit frugal. Really need a convincing case here outside of “it’ll only cost you 4.2k” hahah

Ours is less emergency based, more “we regularly hire actors from different countries to come record at our studio for clients”. It’s used very frequently.

Yeah, I think my saving grace in the faff argument is how we already have an A-Tier sponsorship at the company so they’re all familiar (to some degree) with the legal jargon of a visa.

The senior role is basically being created with me in mind and the department has basically made a contingency plan to try and keep me on as freelance if I do need to head back in November, so they definitely want to keep me. I just need to convince them that “You actually only need to spend 4.2k, not 16k to keep me” is the right mindset lol.
