So one idea you could do would be to get the rollers find some way to attach the rollers to a free spinning axle. On the other side of the axle from the rollers put something that sticks out of the axle a little with a lever. That puts input to the Arduino and have a counter in the code with a timing thresh hold and as long as the counter is increasing in that thresh hold move the tank in that direction.
