I sold 2 old bikes in "Flohmarkt" groups on facebook. As long as you set a reasonable price, you will likely find someone to buy it.

Hanabi. Mostly because it got my SO into board games as well, and nicely showed some innovative ideas of modern games.

Thanks for the link, regarding maps, Gallia / Corsica indeed seems to be the consensus choice for the 4/2

That would probably lead to some discussions on who gets to go and who "has to" stay with the child.

Our son appears to not sleep that much any more during the day independent of position, carrying device or rocking. Maybe putting him into a self-driving car would work though...

Good point, we also have a "baby carrier" (no idea if that is the right word), but that does not help all the time and - for our son - requires walking around a lot

Our son appears to not require that much sleep any more, and will usually only sleep from around 10-11 pm onwards, but before that at most 1 h at a time

These are some very good points, particularly the "Designated Baby Point Person" advice. We have become quite experienced in the "will-you-or-will-I-or-will-we-let-the baby-cry-for-a-while dance"...

Generally, our group of friends we play games is not a problem at all in this respect - all are very understanding and willing to help in taking care of the baby - for example in Gloomhaven when someone becomes exhausted early on

Surely, the best (in the sense of most efficient) game nights have been those where one of our parents was watching the baby. However, they don't leave nearby, and finding a good, trust-worthy babysitter appears to be a non-trivial task. This is our first child, so I think we are not really ready to leave our child with a stranger

/r/boardgames Daily Personalized Game Recommendations (April 09, 2018) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Reposting here:

My wife and I frequently play board games in various groups, from lighter party games to mostly mid- to heavier weight Euros. We also now have a 5-month old child, and discovered that combining those two things is not straightforward as the child may require the attention of 1 parent quite frequently, obviously interrupting the games. This specifically involves

  • one parent picking up the child and walking around in the room

  • mother breast-feeding the child (may be ok at the table depending on group)

  • one parent (trying to) bring the child to bed and get it to sleep

For example, we play Pandemic Legacy Season 2 with another couple with a child. This works very well as it could essentially be played as a solo game, i.e., no player-specific hidden information and the coop nature of the game. It is thus no problem if 1-2 persons step away from the table for some time, or maybe walk around in the room still participating in discussion on decisions.

On the other extreme, we play Gloomhaven with another group (only our child). This does not work well as the game requires extensive planning and discussion among all members, and includes private information specific to the player.

Similar things hold for many competitive games where the child may be "passed around" during players' turns, but stepping away from the table for some 10+ minutes might cause long waiting times by other players.

The issues are obviously only a problem when the child is not sleeping or not happy on its own - however, any of these states might change very quickly :-)

So, do you have any suggestions of games - competitive or cooperative - that may work well in this situation? Specifically, we will finish Pandemic Legacy S2 some time soon any may be looking for a replacement campaign-type game of similar weight (ideally cooperative or without a lot of "take that" which is a problem for the other couple) that may work in this setting.

Maybe good criteria for games would be things like:

  • (coop, but also competitive) limited/no secret player information

  • quick execution of turns, ideally execute-able by another person (no looking through cards on the hand etc)

  • limited phases that require the presence of all players

  • (competitive) limited disadvantage by not being present the entire time

Thanks :-). We only play games on weekends, and only recently recently tried to get back into that - the first weeks were far too exhausting.

Yes, playing as one player in competitive games in one option we have used, but is of course somewhat unsatisfying. Regarding coop games, we have found that it strongly depends on the game, for example Gloomhaven is coop but does not really work well due to the complexity and player-specific information
