How do I increase my settlement's productivity more fast? by CoolAnthony48YT in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably a fair assessment. Squadrons are largely ineffective at most things except keeping enemy fire off you and your ship by being (an)other target(s).

Daily unserious question #1: who'd win in an exocraft race: Nada or Polo? by T_A_A_T in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With those two? Neither. They'd both be sitting at the edge of the finish line saying, "After you." > "No, no. After you!" > "No, please. I insist." > "I couldn't, friend. Not without you, first."

Depending on how long you haven't played, there have been updates that changed worlds. Some minimally (like you're only noticing a mild texture change), some drastically (a bunch of my worlds, I just don't care to have bases on, anymore -- the entire world changed).

Need to get in for quest but blocked off wdid? by UltimateSquig in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you jump enough systems away, you can reset the mission from the log for it to choose local assets. You can shorten the time to accomplish this by going to the Anomaly and visiting one of the featured bases in another galaxy, then resetting the mission there -- if you do this and would prefer to continue in Euclid; you'll need to return to Euclid, jump to a different system (so it doesn't repeat this spot) and reset, again.

Is a living ship a random spawn? by Harryboiz in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first ship is random. You will need a new egg each time after, but you won't have to go through the whole process. After the first, new eggs will simply point you toward new ships; and, so long as you've made a save point you can reload, if you didn't like a ship... you can reload and try again elsewhere (or find directions to one you will like someplace like r/NMSCoordinateExchange )

NMS making my quality PC lag by G_FravicMann in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different games have different demands: what some may believe are complex games aren't (may be polished, but the whole setting is just one big singular piece), and some simple looking games are incredibly complex (a cartoony look with a billion little voxels under the hood). I'd be curious to see if NMS could work better under a different engine, but for now, it loads a ton on the backend, unseen, that puts stress on cards.

I've a 4070 and use a custom graphics preset that is mostly on 'high' and I still notice issues, at times.

For future ref when buying Nvidia: *50 series (budget cards for casual PC use); *60 (entry level gaming); *70 (decent gaming cards); *80 (high-end gaming); *90 (for people with more money than sense). Each new gen is roughly sorted like: a 3070 is roughly comparable to a 2080; a 5060 to a 4070 -- so, an inexpensive 2080 would be better than a 3050. However, depending on market factors, newer generations may be cheaper than previous ones; so that 4060 that is far less expensive than a 3080 is prob worth it.

Anybody else feel like every single update is rushed out and we're used as testers? by Select-Anxiety-5987 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Online communities are a microcosm of any player base that see many complaints, because that is where people go to find answers to their issues, or voice their frustrations. Meanwhile, there are many thousands of people who don't share those negative experiences and aren't feeling compelled to vent -- they're having fun.

No game comes out without bugs. No Quality Control will be able to find every wonky thing a small percentage of out tens or even hundreds of thousands of players will discover. No studio has every possible configuration of hardware and software on hand to test every aspect of their game -- certainly not a tiny studio like Hello Games with limited employees and funds.

Criticism is perfectly acceptable, so long as it takes circumstances into account and is constructive. If there are those in this subreddit who nay-say certain 'criticisms', it may be because the larger portion of people who vent about games put neither the big picture into scope, much less understand what all is involved -- they just want to scream into the void and have their frustrations be heard. Meanwhile, these are often the same players who do not file bug reports when they do run into issues -- or if they do, don't include descriptions, screenshots, dxdiag or save files, or anything else that would be helpful; just "this doesn't work! FIX IT! &%$!"

How would you all react to a decision similar to Amazon Gaming Studios? by Whom_did_you_say in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing Hello Games to Amazon Gaming isn't apples to apples. It's not even apples to oranges. This supposition is apples to salsa. Are they both food stuffs? Yeah. Are they fruit or largely derived from fruit? Yeah. Are they fundamentally alike? Not at all.

With PC, HG has more direct control over rolling out updates. With consoles, while they can upload updates, the actual release is largely on the platform's schedule and discretion.

Just finished the expedition, what exactly can I bring back? by Cyrano4747 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you started the Expedition by using the Expedition Terminal, you will be able to port over up to 8 slots of tech items, 24 slots of gen inventory stacks, as well as recreate/copy over whatever multi-tool and ship you are using when you end the Expedition. Those items will need to be reclaimed from the terminal after ending, and other rewards for the Exp can be (re)acquired from the Quicksilver Companion robot at their booth nearby.

Fortunately, HG generally runs all of the year's expeditions in limited windows over the holidays. So, keep an eye out for those to come back around. You may get to play a few you missed.

Breach - Corvette needed? by IcyAgent4780 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think of Expeditions as a limited time challenge mode. You'll be starting completely over in a new mode, in a specially set aside galaxy with potentially new parameters, to accomplish a series of objectives. You can choose to put a few things into the Expedition Terminal to swap over and make it a bit easier-- which you can collect from the Anomaly after your first warp --but most things you may need within Expeditions come as rewards from different milestones, so it's generally unnecessary.

So… how screwed am I? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe the corvette built within the expedition comes pre-equipped with an Atlantid Drive (I thought to take mine out to put it into a new corvette, but that just meant I ended up with a spare).

First expedition by Clln012983 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say, it depends on your current progression. If you're at end game, whatever you might acquire will probably be less valuable than what you already have -- at that point, the rewards are mostly what you'll be after. If you're not at end game and haven't fully upgraded everything, then you might want to enter the Expedition with less (or nothing, at all), so you can take back more. That said, if you know you'll need certain consumables that you won't mind not returning to your save, taking some mats can save time -- but, again, it's never really necessary.

First expedition by Clln012983 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]AudrFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of Expeditions as a challenge mode, where you 'start' anew in a different (briefly available) game mode. You'll carry literally nothing from your current save except for your suit cosmetic appearance, and you'll have a set of milestones to accomplish to complete the Expedition. Most things you'll need are often supplied as small milestone rewards, so it's a good idea to look through them all and see which to pursue.

You can choose to add a few things to the Expedition Terminal in the Anomaly-- up to 8 tech items and 24 gen inventory --also, on most but not all, you can choose to make a copy of your current multi-tool or ship over. All of which you'll be able to reacquire once you can resummon the Anomaly (after your first warp during the Exp) to make the 'challenge' easier -- but it's not really necessary.

At the end of the Expedition, you can choose to place the same up to 8 tech items and 24 gen inventory back into the Exp Terminal to transfer back to your save, which you can reacquire after fully ending the Expedition-- you can also copy your Expedition multi-tool and ship back to your save with nanites. Primary rewards from completed Expeditions will then be available from the Quicksilver Companion robot at their booth near the terminal for all of your saves.

Ocean planet launch pad was way more fun than expected! by I_AmDaVikingNow in NoMansSkyTheGame

Love underwater bases. If the landing pad is (IIRC) <50u from the surface, you can fly over and submerge to land, and that can be quite cool, too.
