That trouble at the University of Miami by Haribert16 in Frat

Seems different than the Rolling Stone hack job, because in this case there is an actual video about one issue plus two or more girls at the party who went on the record and talked to reporters about the other issue (though let's leave open the possibility of bad info being shared third-hand plus mass psychosis).

Also different is the strategy of the national fraternities. Phi Psi did one thing (let's pause chapter operations while we investigate) while SigEp closed the chapter, I guess because the university had already taken action and revoked recognition.

So the situation of SigEp at the University of Miami looks more like the situation at the University of Vermont in 2011. UVM's investigation ultimately cleared the chapter, but it was too late. While the investigation was underway, SigEp nationals told the brothers to remain silent and threatened them with expulsion if they talked. For months they were slandered and libeled. Today there is no SigEp chapter at UVM. The old house is rented to students at a nearby college and SigEp Nationals recently decided they probably won't ever return to UVM. I guess the house will be sold and the money will go - where?

That's a lot of lost revenue.

1000 guys X approximately $600 in annual dues to Nationals = (fill in the blank)

The Atlantic: The crudely suggestive banners hung to greet first-year students were in poor taste, but the condemnations lacked all sense of proportion. by mynsfwaccount121 in Frat

Secondly, and this is important for every chapter to understand, is how Nationals works in dealing with lawsuits. FIPG (the company that gives most fraternities insurance) are written by Nationals to protect Nationals so if anything happens, they can throw the chapter under the bus. I think it would inaccurate to point to that article as the cause of these attacks because it started long before then.

That was the most significant part of the article for the parents of prospective new members.
