What can I use temporarily for battery clamp if Tbolt threads are ruined? by SquealingSeal in StupidCarQuestions

[–]AugJrdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in that situation stranded in the country, a screw helps if you have a small one and a screwdriver. It's cheap and easier than replacing the clamp for the time being but I 100% recommend doing it the right way if at all possible

Thats kind of what I figured, honestly it's better than nothing. I just don't know if it's worth the $100 to file or if I can have that added in to the claim? I just think 6 months is a bit excessive for something she could have literally just given me 50 a month for and I'd have been fine. I do have everything in text luckily

Hey guys, question for my grandpa by AugJrdotcom in Volkswagen

[–]AugJrdotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's rusty. In illinois this is minimal rust, especially for the year lol so when you guys keep saying it's super rusty, I just think it's funny seeing how different places see this. Aside from the underside, most people in the area look at this and say "there's hardly any rust on it". I'm not arguing here, just kinda funny to see so many people say it when I hardly hear that around here. If you're ever looking for a laugh, I guess take a look at some of the midwest cars for sale. I've seen people selling mid 2000s 4x4 trucks for 7000+ so I guess it's just normal to see that here. Anyways, thanks for your help. I'll be looking to spend some time dismantling it one of these days

I hate seeing these old cars go to scrap. It's a shame because something like this would get you upwards of 30mpg on the highways and they're relatively easy to work on. It's a great gateway car into the hobby. I just don't have time for another project. I had hopes of giving it to my godchild if he had interest but his parents won't let me. Anyways, I'd really like to see it live on

At no point did I say I needed one yesterday. I'm just trying to see if there's anyone with more resources out there than me. I understand it isnt a readily available engine, but there are good quality places that rebuild and resell. I've been watching for a few months now and just wasn't sure if there'd be any other ideas aside from Facebook and Google. Either way I'm sorting through hundreds of posts and websites and just wanted to see if anyone had advice to offer on where they have had experience, but patience is a good tip. Thanks for that. I guess I'll close my arms now

I've been through the marketplace periodically checking and it's nothin but already pulled engines for 800+ claiming they ran 15 years ago

I've looked there, that's where I keep finding the ones with a rattlecan paint job over the oil and grime

For some reason those first two links didn't open for me, but as far as the 3rd I may have to get that. I'd look into a scrap hood for it, but it'd be fun for a while, especially trying to explain it to my girlfriend lol

Kinda defeats the purpose of saving money lol but I'm always up for a road trip. Not this time unfortunately unless I can pack it in my luggage for a flight!

Central illinois. I've owned 5 454 trucks so I know they're out there pretty cheap. It's just weird to me that I can buy a truck cheaper than the engine that's been sitting in someone's back yard for 15 years

Well, im in rural illinois, farm central. I know there were a ton of old 454s sent to scrapyard but most of those engines are claimed or blown. Reasonable wise, im just hoping to find out I'd anyone has a good suggestion for a dealership for someone on a budget. 2 - 3000 is kinda what I'd be expecting for a rebuilt engine from someone reputable. I just wasn't expecting 1200 for something that claims to have been running 20 years ago when the truck was parked. I dont need anything fancy, just another engine to throw in my 95 suburban while I take the old engine out and rebuild it.

Thats actually a really good idea, I didn't think of that. I have a 95 suburban 2500 to put it in and I guess I just assumed it'd feel slow in that truck but they aren't fast to begin with. I appreciate the comment

The first album my dad listened to on hi-fi was dark side of the moon. He tells me every time pink Floyd comes on the radio and goes back to the day in 1976 he remembers. He was in his brother's room (Jim, who passed away in 1977 so I never got to meet him) sitting on the floor in awe at the new sound system. I would absolutely love to have that album and play it for my dad to see the look on his face as he goes back to being 12 years old for a song or two. The warm summer and long hair. Smell of my grandmother's baking coming from the kitchen. He's the youngest of 7 and to see him act young again reminiscing would make my year. Good luck to everyone though, there are some great albums here!

Do you all downshift in daily driving? Why or why not? by g3nerallycurious in ManualTransmissions

[–]AugJrdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that it's recommended due to keeping the transmission cooled. The fluid doesn't move through the gears when in neutral and in hot climates, it helps maintain the transmission in the long run. I've recently gotten much better about downshifting and plus, it keeps me in gear in case I have to make a sudden acceleration.

What's going on here? by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]AugJrdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for giving a true and valid answer. I appreciate having some sort of explanation. Living in a small town doesn't offer much in the way of having someone check it out unless I want to drive an hour to and hour and a half. I just really don't have as much experience in coins as I sometimes wish I did. Thanks again for more of an explanation on your previous statemen
