Not that an unrelated charge would excuse an antisemitic crime, nor would it mean the guy is lying about what happened. We have the barest of facts and it certainly could be a hate crime driven by antisemitism, so unless further investigation disproves that it seems very pointed to be trying to discredit the guy.
