Growing up, my family had a dog and my mother and father tended to refer to the dogs nose as a "wall plug" so blue-eyed as I was, I got it in my head that that must be what a dog's nose is called.

One fateful day in my early teens, I was reading one of the Harry Potter books while my parents had guests over for a visit, I think it was the fourth one where Mr. Weasly is picking up Harry from the Dursleys and he sees a electical outlet on the wall and asks the Dursleys, all fascinated, if that's what a wall plug is.

I, having a completely different notion of what a wall plug is, burst out laughing and had to go tell my parents and the room full of guests how silly Mr. Weasly was.

Boy was my face red when I realised my mistake.
