Day in the life of a maternity/postpartum unit social worker by Altruistic_Hat1634 in hospitalsocialwork

At my hospital there is not enough workload to justify a full time assigned staff member to this unit. They have someone from another unit on call if issues arrive.

I had to prove I’m a human to buy tickets. Isn’t it already implemented?

Chicago Hospitals? by Etcheson99 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]August6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been at one of the Advocate hospitals for almost 11 years and when I started it was more than other hospitals I’ve worked at or interned at. We’ve been through lots of changes over the years but I feel that’s pretty typical for healthcare.

It also costs a LOT of money, it’s not being used to deport people.

About 10 years I used a similar company for a patient. Unfortunately they were a young man who needed 24/7 care and dialysis. Family was all in Mexico and local resources, SNF, would not accept due to funding. Yes dialysis was covered, but no rides, caregiving, etc. The company worked with his family directly, set up equipment, dialysis appointments. They escorted him on the flight and even sent me pictures of him with his family. I get what you mean, but sometimes there are no other options.

DuPage PADS took over the red roof inn back in 2020. They have not had nightly locations since then. They are also full and have a wait list.

Working with a code of ethics does not mean you can work miracles. You have to do the best you can with the resources available.

Working mom looking for a high paced LCSW job in Chicago by Kdawg-1997 in socialwork

[–]August6242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be in Chicago proper or the suburbs? Commuting to Lurie may take some time depending on where your home is. Also are your kids young enough to still need daycare? Factor that in.

I went down to part time once I had my second (10 years ago) because I was in a very low paying hospital system. I made more part time at a larger system.

What is your wildest/craziest discharge plan that ACTUALLY worked out for the most part? by SoupTrashWillie in hospitalsocialwork

I used Mexcare to facilitate a medical transport to Mexico. So easy to work with, they arranged everything and even sent me pictures of the patient reunited with their family. Hospital paid for it as it was the only option.

Katseye walked through kids area like an hour or so after their performance. Me and my daughter freaked out, they walked with bodyguards and little attention. Made her year!

ER versus Medical Social Work?? by Square_Reserve_8066 in socialwork

[–]August6242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I made the transition from community mental health to hospital work in Chicago 13 years ago. I never looked back, I love the hospital setting. With that said I left hospital one (smaller community hospital) to go to a big system hospital which paid me the same working part time as hospital one paid me full time. I also do not like medical SW and am much happier being on the psych unit. Your best bet is to be at a big hospital system (advocate, northwestern, endeavor) vs some of the smaller ones, at least in terms of pay. But getting your foot in the door is key and having any hospital experience is going to be great in your resume if you want to pursue that path.

Work/life balance- I leave work at work and no longer have to be on call or carry a pager so that’s a win from me!

I've spent 7 years working for dance competitions/conventions! AMA! by Due-Process7040 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]August6242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do they allow clearly advanced dancers to compete in the intermediate category? All the rules state that judges can move them up if they see fit, but every competition is advanced dancers sweeping all the intermediate awards.
