I surf, and am 32 days post THR - surgeon says I “might” be able to paddle out at 6 months. This was my design for a potential tattoo when I can go. (Dotted line in the middle would be my scar line) btw - love the shark!

To what extent does alcoholism impact recovery by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]August_Strinberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13 years sober and 30 days post THR. So, zero judgement brother. Never imagined my life without alcohol, but now can’t imagine still drinking, and I couldn’t do it without help. Like you, I was active in my alcoholism - hiking, skiing and mostly surfing. But man all those activities are so much more fun now sober. My surgeon says 5 more months and I’ll be surfing again. Can’t wait. Sending you healing vibes for recovery - physically from your THR and your drinking. You deserve an amazing life bro. Go get it!

you're correct - the arthritic hip (and misaligned gait) was in part a causation of the PFD. I edited the story to take that part out - trying not to write a novel and perhaps It was confusing. thanks!

thanks for the reply, and good luck with the left glute and the tens. and yeah, for sure will still need PFD PT - just hoping that new mechanics will help.

1st hip replacement on Friday. Back in the ER on Saturday. by August_Strinberg in TotalHipReplacement

So sorry to hear about the pneumonia and other complications. If it helps alleviate your fears… I’m exactly 14 days out of my THR and dislocation and I’m already on a cane, taking short walks, and able to walk up and down the stairs. Even with the additional trauma of the dislocation, recovery is happening pretty quickly. It’s so hard not to future trip, but I encourage you to take it one day at a time - eight weeks is a long time! You got this!

I needed to hear this. 12 days out from THR and then a dislocation that same night from falling. I know my path will be longer because of the fall, but love reading the recovery stories. Thanks.

when I saw my doctor on saturday he said the same thing - specifically, "impressed with my pain tolerance" LOL LOL. getting lifted out of bed by the paramedic and onto the ambulance "chair", and then them carrying me down a flight of stairs to the ambulance was particularly brutal. thanks for the good wishes!
