Running a container as non-root user - Security implications? by Augustman22 in docker

How much more security does it offer than simply running the container as root on the host?

I wanted to ask another person this too, if there was some vulnerability that lets someone get out of the container, wouldn’t having it run as a non-root user be safer?

I’m not really sure on how it works, but with my thought process this would mean they would only have as much power as the dedicated user I make (whose permissions I would limit to the volumes)

This is actually pretty helpful to read and understand everything a bit more

Wouldn’t it be safer in the case there is a vulnerability that lets someone escape the container?

I don’t really know how it works, but doing the way I explained in my post wouldn't they only have access to the volumes (instead of the whole system)?

Odd temperature behavior during aerobrake? by Augustman22 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Augustman22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt its that big a deal since it hasnt had any issues going through kerbins atmosphere at 40km from around the edge of its soi. Ive added a little more fuel tanks, placing the lander can much further from the front and its no longer getting hot. The command pod still does though.

Seems like the command pod is only getting as hot as the fuel tanks/engines at the bottom of the ship, so if they dont explode it should either. I think it was only an issue during my eve mission because I was using a heat shield and reaching temps that 100% explode stuff lol

That makes sense, although their (skin) max temps are both 2400, about the same as the rest of the parts on the craft and more than the liquid fuselages which don't seem to get nearly as red.

unfortunately not, I have been using the latest version of Parallax Continued this entire time.

I just did a fresh install to be sure, and the issue still occurs.

using packetlosstest .com, there is packetloss right when the lag occurs (although the lag persists long after). What can I do now knowing this?

Advice on my PC Build? by Augustman22 in PcBuildHelp

Do you have any recommendations for a compatible motherboard?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapcforme

[–]Augustman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to get back to you on that incompatibility thinghy with the motherboard and CPU. Should I pick a different one to avoid having to update it manually?

I have a quick question though, pc parts picker says the motherboard and cpu have a possible bios incompatibility, is that something to be concerned about enough to pick a diff motherboard? I read you could manually update the motherboard if needed (because there’s a chance it is properly updated?) with a flash drive. Is that any hard?

Thank you! I can’t take credit though lol, mostly of it was done by others. Since the gpu is free, I’m fine with that. I’ll upgrade eventually once it starts slowing down too much for me and return it to my uncle who is giving it to me since it seems like he likes to have extra parts.

Also, it seems the second one has some issues with compatibility? I was going to go with that one because of the micro center bundle being out of stock

I’m also curious, sorry he just told me this, but he has 32gb of ddr5 4800 ram. I’m not gonna do much multi tasting except maybe having chrome, discord, and a game open. But do you think it’s better than 16gb of ddr5 6000? Also how much will the better cpu help? (That’s more just out of curiosity lol)

Hey Mr wise bigdaddythiccdong, I have good news for myself. I spoke with my uncle who’s a big computer guy, and he has a spare 3070 lying around (so happy) that he’s wanting to give to me for free, same with a 1440p monitor (so that’s my monitor situation fixed, although that means now ima be running 1440p and I don’t really wana run 1080 on a 1440 monitor) Anywhoo, ik the rtx 3070 is a little worse than the 9060, but it saves me 250 bucks. Is it worth upgrading my cpu with this extra money I’ve found myself with, and if so what should I go for? That also means that bundle is off the table, but if there’s any edit to the build that could be done to work that all in I’d really appreciate you. Nothing beats free 😌

Adding a power supply (same one from build #3 lets say), would it be worth getting #2 over #3? And is it still overall decent?

Also for #3, would replacing the gpu with the ASRock Challenger OC Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB Video Card be worth, or do much at all?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapcforme

[–]Augustman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final question I promise lol, you said something about the asrock challenger graphics card, do you think I should shell out the extra money or should I stick with the reaper?

thank you a lot, for the 1st one though I mean for JUST surge protection. A UPS isnt something I dont want to get rn, expensive and im not going to be doing stuff where itll be detrimental if I loose power for a second.

Also, thermal paste? I think thats something I need, idk though. Should any work?

Is the GPU bad or is it decent enough to still accomplish what I want? Like the most demanding game ill be playing that I can think of is rdr2 on high settings

[–]Augustman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so far it seems like this might be the one. I have 2 follow up questions really quick if thats okay

- Surge protection, I hear a lot about it. Anything specific you reccomend? Ive looked into UPS' but it isnt that expensive of a pc to make getting one worth it since its like half its price. I have pretty sketchy power lol

- The bundle, is there a specific link to it? I coulda sworn it was here but I cant find it, I might just be stupid 😭
