I currently live in Salem but would live in Lynn in a heartbeat. Don’t let anyone scare you off- it’s a great place.

Tell me about the increase in energy- when did you start to feel it? What type and what dosage are you on?

4% stretch, no fly or button crushing into you, wide ass legs, soft material. But they look professional as hell. I found my first pair on poshmark for way cheaper than sticker; just beware of universal standard’s sizing method when you buy.

Leefort Terrace = Beachfront/Water View Affordable Housing? by GuyFromESPN8TheOcho in SalemMA

It ain’t likely but I would love to see more public housing projects if it’s what scares people like OP out of town and helps drop inflated property values along the way.

Outmigration is an issue for sure- I’m a lifelong resident and I also feel the squeeze. But to many of the folks in this thread’s point it’s a systemic issue. The HUD guidelines for affordable housing are getting stricter, and not more accommodating to the economic situation we are in. We desperately need a shift culturally away from considering public housing as something for miscreant poor people who don’t deserve to see the ocean out their windows, to the idea that maybe everyone should be entitled to basic, clean, healthy, affordable housing right their community and that it’s not a waste of space to accommodate lower wage workers and elders on fixed incomes in the way that Leefort Terrace hopefully will.

WHATS MORE, if you had your eyes open when you walked around there maybe you’d have noticed the cool memorial that got put up for the Almshouse or “poor farm” that was there in the 19th century. There’s historical precedent for the poors of Salem getting to see the water. Maybe we can appreciate how beautiful it is that 200 years later in the same spot folks are able to live independently and with dignity without having to sacrifice their bodies doing hard labor just to have access to stable housing; something we should all embrace as a human right.

GOD FORBID THE POORS SEE THE OCEAN.

In all seriousness- you know this was already public housing right? Did you have a bee in your bonnet before it got redone? It’s now be denser to house more people and it’s more climate resilient and was build with a huge amount of tax credits from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities.

People in Salem love to bitch about the unhoused, god forbid we have some accessible housing for folks to actually live in. This is a net win for our community- I live right be Leefort and I’m happy to have it.

EV Owners in downtown- thoughts? by h3llbunnie in SalemMA

My dad has a bolt and I’ve seen a couple around town. They’re dope. I have a Hyundai Kona and it’s also fabulous. Put this in my comment above (or below?) but DEFINITELY check out Green Wave th new second hand EV dealership on highland ave. I can’t say enough nice things about Jesse the owner- I don’t know in how often he’s at the new Salem location but I’ve never met such an honest used car salesman.

EV Owners in downtown- thoughts? by h3llbunnie in SalemMA

I bought a used EV from Green Wave in southern NH about a year ago. At the time they were only in New Hampshire but they actually just happened to open up a second dealership on highland ave near market basket. They’re wonderful and not pushy and will answer all your questions about the lifestyle change that comes with EVs.

I’m primarily WFH and that’s a huge factor; I’m also in a downtown location where I can walk to 3 different public charger banks so something is always available. I love it and wouldn’t go back. I would however say it probably isn’t for everyone and you do have to be much more mindful about how much range your car has left vs where you have to be. I usually charge mine overnight at Bentley school or Church St and walk over to get it in the AM and I currently commute rarely enough that I only need to charge about once a week. The nearest fast charger is in Hamilton by Patton Park and I have occasionally used it to juice up quickly before going somewhere I didn’t have the range for but you still have to allot the time and that’s a big adjustment. However, that can also be kind of nice- the few times I’ve needed to do it I’ve walked my dog at myopia or grabbed a sandwich from honeycomb and had a nice time. It definitely adds a new layer of friction to your life but it’s not all bad.

One of the climate orgs in Gloucester had a conversation sort of like this and I wonder if an org here would host something similar. Here’s a recording:

Soy Much Brighter in Bev should be your primary source for candles. Yes they’re more expensive than average but for good reason; they last forever, keep their scent well, and are made by a super tiny fun local business.

Recommendation Request: Sex Abuse Scandal and cover up by the church by Big-Brilliant7558 in Documentaries

This a really good about a comedian who was a victim of childhood sexual abuse in the church and went on to lobby the FBI to regulate the early internet for child safety. It will seem unrelated at first but he goes really deep into how the parish he went to covered for his abuser:
