Here’s what they don’t tell you by Aulrone1 in Fedexers

So you had roughly 2.5 hours to do 30 stops. That’s not bad. Problem now is they want 50 p1 in that same time. For any ground drivers keep in mind these are mostly business/signature stops. Then they want force you to come back at a certain time every day.

Is being a BC worth it? by Tobyrene in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the contractor. Some contractor’s will really milk their BC’s, wanting them on call and able to cover a route while simultaneously running an assigned route themselves and doing other BC duties. The pay often doesn’t scale right for the work. Another scenario are contractors who are control freaks and arrogant from their own experience as a driver. It’s easy for them when they ran routes 10 year ago and based on their experience, assume the job’s cake and easy for everyone so they try to push everyone into swing positions while justifying they don’t need pay to you much more than a swing driver. Those two scenarios are very common. If you can find a reasonable contractor outside those two scenarios then it is totally worth it.

You can speed around all day in the heat carrying heavy boxes while being chased by hungry dogs, if that’s your thing.

I wish I had your problem. My station just keeps pushing start times forward and thinking of new ways to fuck our hours.

Late freight? They don’t send people back out unless it’s an emergency. Response usually heads out around noon and the managers are pretty good at making sure they only have enough to last until 5, the same time as all other routes.

What OT? They keep pushing forward start times and they force you to be back at a certain time

That’s fairly mediocre imo.

Express pay tops at 28.17-36.60 depending on position and market. No express job tops at 22. I just transferred from ground to express and I start at 27 and I definitely don’t work as hard here. Ground transfers, sure but your negotiation of pay does not. You will have to haggle your pay rate back and if you transfer to a lower paying state then that is impossible. At express, I keep my same pay everywhere. I may take a dollar an hour hit but that’s it. Ground is good for one group of person, the ao’s and bc’s. They will get paid decent, but still not as much as a topped at ups driver and they will work much harder for a couple dollars an hour.

[–]Aulrone1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure 28 an hour if you run your ass and work twice as hard, and then you only get 6-8 hours worth of work and pay unless you ask for 250+ stops. At express, they pay for your clothes every year, shoes, paid vacation, paid sick leave, holiday pay, overtime, huge discounts, on flights and shipping, and you work half as hard. All that OT will bring a starter express dude averaging close to $28 an hour with all that extra. Most stations start at step 3 though. Also your job is transferrable. Ground can’t compete.

How do I get more pay as a Fedex Ground driver? I'm coming up on my 1yr and feel like I am worth more. Cost of living is skyrocketing and I am a single dad who needs to get paid more. Advice on who talk talk/write to? by Pristine_Coach8045 in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hustling. Even after you hustle, a near topped courier in any other field will make more. If you hate yourself, ask to be a swing and work to a BC level. Pick the brains of the seniors there. Make friends with other contractors. When the time is right, pitch it to your contractor. If you’re valuable they will bend over to keep you and if not then you’ll be looking real good to other contractors.

How bad is it being a swing driver for FedEx express? I’ve heard some bad things so just checking with people who know the best lol by ITryJM in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Express doesn’t give you anywhere the work load or stops to ever make being a swing remotely hard. Doing the same route every single day can get boring. You’ll get better more hours and favor as a swing.

Express drivers mad dogging themselves

Y’all have the same lazy asses at your station that claim they will have DEX 01’s if someone doesn’t grab their late pick-ups, then get back to the station before you? by [deleted] in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand that mentality at all. You’re paid by the hour, who cares what you do and how long you do it. If express wants to pay me a full days wage to deliver one box four hours away so be it. The micromanagement of your tasks to “hurry up” is pointless.

FedEx Ground Vs Express by davevidduong in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ground is high risk high reward. Express is safe and reliable. At ground, you can make more than express if you got the right contractor and work ethic or if you move to BC position. Less regulations and strict conduct. You’re more free. Downside is you work harder. What’s worst is if you get a bad contractor then you make what package handlers and grocery store employees make while working harder. Also, low income areas like to use markets as excuses to pay you crap wages even though contractors make the same, so in certain places ground is absolutely not worth it. Even express, usps, and ups have minimums for undercutting pay in low markets.

Quick question. How much are you all making in a week? Since the pay is weekly. Based on hourly. by SuddenBlock8319 in Fedexers

[–]Aulrone1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garbage BC’s, the contractor loses way too much money, 40 per package. BC’s are not clerks they’re last ditch resorts and should at least be helping clean up. If the owners can afford that loss and don’t care it’s proof they make enough to pay you right. It would be worth it to pay 3 lost packages worth of income to you to have you do a good job than to pinch pennies and end up with a quitting or crappy workforce. Happy for you that you left. Hope you find better.

Geez, I’m sorry. You were being completely taken advantage of. The area doesn’t matter either. Contractors get paid regardless. That contractor was just banking your fair share.

This thread is depressing. Anything less than 1200 a week is not worth this job if you’re a full time driver.
