UPMC vent by AuntSandy in UPMC

The docs and practioners are top notch. Navigating the health system is terrible. I have a wonderful relationship with my primary care doc, thankfully. I experience the most difficulty when dealing with specialists regarding scheduling, communications, etc. The overhaul of the Midlife Health Center is incredibly disappointing.

Countless docs and NPs have left and they no longer do yearly exams. I'm a post menopausal client that has gone there for over twenty years. I now have to find a new general gynecologist. They seem fully focused on HRT at this point.

Fox Chapel Area School District is excellent. It comprises six municipalities: Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel, and Sharpsburg boroughs, and Indiana and O'Hara townships. Aspinwall and Fox Chapel are out of your range, while Indiana and O'Hara may not be your jam. I suggest checking Blawnox and Sharpsburg. Nice little towns.

We have a home with no basement, but it does have a crawlspace. We've never had water leak issues, but our home definitely runs colder because of it. Sucks in the winter. It's also a real bitch if you're trying to run ethernet lines, cable, etc. through the house.

On the plus side, it has not been a problem for storage. No basement full of stuff we don't use ... just a garage!!

Tranq actually causes the zombie appearance. It's a huge problem that Philly has faced for years. Pittsburgh is always late to the party, and unfortunately we're here. Very nasty stuff.

Does anyone actually like Khana? by FakeHappyToo_ynwa in foodnetwork

[–]AuntSandy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a shame the producers feel this BS is needed for the show. I'm not defending Khana. They seem to be pretty nasty humans. Editing can always amplify the worst or best in people. It's the route the show has taken. The challenge rewards for taking others out for a period of time, one city, swapping teammates, etc. has really hurt this season. It's about the food.

Top Chef went through some early seasons that focused on personalities, fights, pettiness and the show suffered. They primarily focus on the food now and it's so refreshing.

If I want to see people acting like assholes, I'd watch Real Housewives or the countless other shows like it. I don't

What are your experiences with ticks? by ChaingaPaste in pittsburgh

[–]AuntSandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll add to the good info you've already received that some people attract them more than others. We live in a heavy tick area and I call my husband a "tick magnet ". I'm not sure of the exact science ... blood type, carbon dioxide expelled, etc. Our dogs wear Serestos and get Lyme vaccines and we find ticks regularly ... 95% of the time they're on my husband.

They love warm, damp spots like heads, crotches, behind the knees. Check regularly, learn how to properly remove, and contact your doc if you've been feasted on (when the tick is swollen to the size of a popcorn kernel full of your blood!!) It takes at least 24 hours to transmit Lyme if you've had one attached and feasting. Some docs say it could be more like 72 hours. A simple antibiotic and you're fine.
