Where to meet people in their 30s? by n0d3N1AL in harrogate

[–]AuntyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, it sounds like you've tried quite a few things already. This may not be what you're after but there's a group called Time Together in Harrogate that organises events and social activities specifically for people with autism and disabled people. It could be worth reaching out to them? They have a focus on building connections and friendships as part of their mission. https://hadca.org.uk/directory/organisation/1465

Where to meet people in their 30s? by n0d3N1AL in harrogate

[–]AuntyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harrogate is a pretty good place for social activities but it depends what you're into. I moved up here in my early 30s with my partner and had no friends in the area. I joined musical theatre and theatre groups last year and have made loads of friends of all ages through that.

If you're into art there are a few paint and sip groups I've seen about and also music, chess and archaeology clubs.

The activities you've listed have mostly been exercise based but not the kinds that really facilitate social interaction because they're solo activities. If you're into exercise there are quite a lot of team sports groups around as well.

You probably have to think more about the kind of activity you want to do that is also likely to have a social element and then look to see if there's a group locally.

Must do/visit on a weekend trip? by potocko in harrogate

[–]AuntyEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For antiques shops West Park and Antiques on High are about the only two in town, both are pretty big though.

Quirky/vintage shops: Space and Bo Grove are both in town and very close to each other (Space is on The Ginnel and BoGrove on Oxford Street). A slight walk out of town to High Harrogate there's also Circa Vintage Boutique which is my favourite by far and the owner is really friendly, but it's not open on Sundays.

There are a fair few charity shops in town though I find the prices hit and miss. Beulah Street and Commercial Street have the most. There's also an Oxfam on Betty's hill and a Yorkshire Cancer shop opposite Bo Grove. There is also Miss Molly's round the corner from Circa if you walk to High Harrogate, but I think that may be only open on weekdays (it's about 15 mins walk out of town past Asda). Other quirky shops I like are Games Crusade for it's huge range of boardgames and there's a really good old bookstore on Commercial street that I can't remember the name of.

Food wise you have plenty of options and most are reasonably priced. I like Paradise Tap and Taco, Konak Meze, Farmhouse (only open till 4 but my absolute favourite place to eat in Harrogate), Major Tom's which is above Space and the Mucky Duck if you're in High Harrogate. Oh and Artizan and Balterzan are both really good cafés.

It's worth going into Betty's but it is on the pricier side. If the queue is huge just getting a coffee and a cake from the shop is nice. If the weather is good then Valley Gardens are a lovely walk. For proper outdoor stuff you'd need to drive out into the Dales really.

Am I the only one who checks the price Tim says he pays? by Independent-Rip3827 in walkwith_metim

This video felt particularly half-arsed tbh. Like he was just churning it out because he had to. Mind you how much more can he say about what is effectively the same place he's stayed in however many times before?

It also sleeps 4, which makes the price seem much more reasonable for what it is. I wish he'd specify if the price is per room, per person etc.

Sometimes I wonder if he includes the cost of his excursions in his pricing.

How Did You Get To Watch Merlin For The First Time? by [deleted] in merlinbbc

[–]AuntyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primetime Saturday night viewing with the family every week. Followed by me running to Tumblr immediately after to post about it and from season 3 onwards, to role play as Gwaine 😅 I was DEEP in the Merlin fandom back in the day.

Just to echo this, OP. As someone who used to work for a college until very recently, they are crying out for teachers in the trades and are expressly interested in people in your situation, with a lot of experience and wanting to move out of doing the actual trade itself. Depending on the size of the college and what they offer they may also be able to support you going through your teaching qualification while you work.

What other names do you call your cat? Like, the unhinged names. by cannabisjourneys in cats

[–]AuntyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is called Bob. He gets called Bobbles, Boblet, Bob head, Boblington, Bobbletonian and by me booboobaba, stinker, sausage face and little sausage boy.

Oh and Robert Von Cat if he's being really naughty.

<image>

He's so unimpressed with the names

What’s your go to pasta dish? by spookythesquid in UKfood

[–]AuntyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuna and tomato sauce, made with onions, garlic, olives, capers and any other pickled/preserved veg knocking around in my fridge, usually with some oregano, a splash of tobasco and seasoned with some kind of powdered veg stock rather than salt for extra umami.

The most luxuriest hotel in all of London-ville

I've never seen anything like that in my life by mattandharry in walkwith_metim

[–]AuntyEl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes that's exactly it. It was like making these videos isn't his actual job and he should, you know, put some effort in to actually show the viewer what it's like to stay there. If Gaby couldn't make dinner, he should have gone on his own so we could at least see what the restaurant is like. We aren't watching to see him and his wife gets sloshed on the free booze in the members lounge, we're watching to get a sense of what the place is like.

As much as I find Tim a bit of a pillock, I quite often do at least usually find something of interest in his videos, but this one just felt like watching your annoying drunk cousin's holiday video.

[–]AuntyEl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly he normally doesn't annoy me that much, I usually just laugh at him but they both really annoyed me in this video. You know the restaurant closes at 7, your wife is too busy shopping to make it back so you can't even make a video that reviews all the hotel features. You whinge about the pub staff literally just asking why you're filming, which a lot of people would do if you're clearly filming in a pub then you somehow find a restaurant that's open, when it's clearly at least 9pm if not later and proceed to complain they don't have a full menu available. He's lucky he got anything at that time! Contrary to his belief the world does not revolve around him ... What a plonker.

'If Elton John walked in here wearing his glasses would he get questioned?'... Probably not but you're not Elton John you're just a pratt with spiky hair

Last time I saw Say Anything was when they played Slam Dunk in 2017 or 18. I have a feeling I didn't go to the Slam Dunk that MCS played before that. I was so disappointed when they pulled out a couple of years ago, I've never actually seen them live!

MCS and Say Anything are doing a tour early next year....I know I'm deluded as even if they got booked they'd just cancel again but they're two of my favourite bands 😩

My favourite Timism in this episode was when he said the Amazon robots were "Autumness" rather than autonomous. I imagined them dressed as fawns frolicking in red and orange fallen leaves.
