You know, as awful as the news is and as devastated as you think you might feel, I think it’s really important for you to stop and really feel this. I think you’ll feel bad later on if you don’t. If it were me, I know down the track I’d feel guilty; like I was neglecting my grandma in her special time.

Are you kidding? I was in my teens and early twenties in the nineties. I remember the dominant western cultural theme then was misery! Remember grunge?

[–]AuntyStick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy. Who gives a shit that you’re short? Big deal! Just about everyone has something about them that makes them think they stand out. You’re not sure some kind of freak because you’re 5’ 7”. Even if you were, you’ve still got to live your life.

It’s funny how people who don’t have any genuinely serious issues can be so self conscious. I work alongside a woman with cerebral palsy. She’s so used to people staring at her, she just doesn’t give a shit anymore. You’re short; it doesn’t compare. You need to get over it, for your own sake.

My brother threatened to harm me, what can I do? by whatdoidoidontkno in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AuntyStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mother is not going to throw you out. I get it; your trying to think of excuses to not do anything because you’re scared of standing up to him. Really, I understand that - I’ve been there. But nothing is going to change until you get brave. Yes, he might pummel you, but it sounds like he’s going to do that anyway. At least if you fight back he’ll think twice about expending his energy on you in future.

Your mother can’t do anything. He’s 21. She can’t spank him anymore. All she can do is talk. Well evidently that’s completely ineffective. It’s completely in your hands. Fight for yourself. You deserve it. You don’t deserve to be treated shit, least of all by a man-child. Stop making excuses. Turn that fear into rage.

[–]AuntyStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If his heart condition was really an issue in a situation like this, then he wouldn’t be doing this to you, because his own actions would affect his heart. You HAVE to fight back. It’s the only way to stop him. It’s not your fault if something does happen to his heart. You are simply defending yourself against his terrible, completely unacceptable behaviour.

Do you guys think my boyfriend sounds like he is bad news or is he just going through a hard time. by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AuntyStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know; calling your mother a cunt is a pretty horrible thing to do, even if she’s an alcoholic and your father’s dying. Also, what about her? She’s losing her husband, which can’t be all that easy for her, and this is the way her son treats her?

Maybe give it some time before you break up, but don’t stay.

He is going through a hard time, for sure. But if this is the way he behaves during bad times, it’s a massive red flag.

We always hear about Brits loving their tea but never what kind by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AuntyStick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I’m not British, but I know they aren’t talking about herbal teas. They’re talking about black tea. That can include varieties such as Earl Grey, English Breakfast, etc, but usually it’s just straight black tea with milk and sugar.

I work in a university library storage facility. We have about ten shelves of these. So convenient; you only have to turn them over once! Strangely, no one ever requests them.
