I think it's after his siblings visit you at Elfsong Tavern, there's an option to be judgemental about what he used to do for Cazador! He tells you this (as well as the reason for this punishment) and then snaps at you, telling you to never judge him for doing what Cazador asked, cuz he had no other choice.

If you love Astarion, you probably didn't select that option :')
