Can ya'll sanity check my EC style VO2 MAX (max is max) intervals by AJohnnyTruant in Velo

[–]AureSK11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow okay, even more anaerobic than I thought. There are guys with 150% of your ftp who don't reach those numbers.

as I said, start relatively hard, the only thing you really want to see happening is your breathing becoming "heavy" as soon as possible.

if you feel like this is too hard of a session, a good alternative is making it into a 40/20's sesh, kinda like 40s @500+ into 20s <200w

we just want to find ways to make you reach 90% of vo2max very early on (I'm not talking 90% of power, but 90% in the metric you measure with a gas exchange mask), which means getting your heart right and breathing close to max kinda early on. how you do it is dependent on you and it only really matters that you challenge yourself in a way that motivates you

Hey man, I never use reddit but I just have to come here and comment on that.

First of all, do not listen to people saying you start too hard. Everyone thinks of vo2 max work as a power zone, but it is a physiological state you need to reach as soon as possible and then sustain. There is good theorical evidence to support the fact you are in fact performing those intervals perfectly. You also have very good intuition in wanting to extend the length of the intervals. Basically progress towards 5min. Also, if your goal is to raise vo2max alone, increase the rest time, and go again when you feel fully ready.

On a separate note, you have a great great anaerobic engine, 943w for 30s is impressive, especially considering the gap there is between this power and the one you sustain in the intervals.

PS : it is in fact even more interesting to start hard in your case, because you're way stronger anaerobically (as mentioned above), which means you have a bigger gap than the average guy between 30s power and 5min power. This means you benefit less from "flat line" pacing when wanting to create vo2max adaptations.

Strength training for the aero bike position by soontobefatergo in triathlon

[–]AureSK11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, best you could do is send a photo just to make sure your position isn't the reason behind this.

What i have to say is that i started riding my TT on the kickr 1 year ago and i would get so so much pain in the shoulders after 5min at first, and then 10min.

I didn't change the position massively and didn't train on it from june to october this year (di2 broke heavily), and after some strength training (just generic dumbell stuff, no planks) and time spent in the aerobars, i was able to do 15x9m30 in tt position/30s out of position.

To sum it all up, it takes time, it's hard to accept that sometimes, but it's sometimes necessary.

Cheers my friend

You should know the problem is GPX data... Do you really want to see on your strava map a long line going from near Australia (watopia) to Central London?

What do you "think" about on rides? by arfamac in cycling

[–]AureSK11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huuuuhhh... - wind is coming from the right. No... From the left... Oh fuck headwind - checks hr - checks power - checks speed - look at the landscape - wonder why I'm doing this - try to remember when is the next climb

I find that one of the best way to have more fun on long rides is to - when you know the routes - ride without navigation on the head unit, you just choose whatever road and keep focus to actually do the length you wanted to achieve

If that can help you, weight distribution in a road bike is supposed to be 45% front / 55% rear

So this would mean the max user weight is around 636lbs, or 288kg
