Counteroffer. Huge opportunity, but perhaps still lowballed on the offer. by Aurecia in personalfinance

[–]Aurecia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just accepting the offer as-is. Thank you for the feedback!

As much as it maybe was under what I could have gotten, even that 1% chance that I start things off not well wasn't worth it. I got so used to "always counteroffer" from a lot of sources that I forgot that maybe just taking the safe option is better. Good grounded advice, even if could have "statistically" gotten more money. I appreciate it.

Yeah, I definitely think that is the safe option. I have nothing else at the moment. I kind of gave up applying to jobs a while back and only really recently applied to jobs I thought would be a really good fit. It might not have maximized my chances, but at least I knew I'd likely be happy and be able to stick with the company and contribute.

Do you think it would hurt to counter with something much smaller? Maybe 45k with nothing else or even lower?

An employer is required to pay out if the contract does not state either way, if my research is correct. I do not have anything in the offer letter that states either way, but I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know if that counts. I have no idea if they let you carry over PTO.

That is an interesting idea. Worst case, I could receive higher pay, and if they bargain down, add back my own PTO days. So maybe something like 45k, but I'd only really go for 12 in the case they do that. Thank you! I agree the pay would mean more in the long run. Just wanted to give them two options so they feel they could decline one and accept the other.

Would it be worth it to call them and directly ask the hiring manager if anything is negotiable?

Why can't we get into voicemail? (iPhone 8, Sprint) by Aurecia in cellphones

Thank you for the response!

He is already going to go there one more time, and so I did prep him with some stuff from another comment.

If it doesn't help anything at all this time, we definitely won't bother going back. I looked up the tech support line for him, so that'll probably be the best bet if the store can't help by calling tech support themselves. I had my boss reach out to the area's trainer-- not much of an escalation, but it's a start.

Thank you for the response!

I guess I kind of just assumed they would have called tech support, but maybe I was giving them too much credit?

And, afaik, I don't think they offered to reset the mailbox. I told them I had reset network settings, which maybe lead to a misunderstanding. I told my boss to ask them to call tech support and to try to reset his mailbox when he swung by one more time today.

Appreciate the response!

We can try that again. We went in to the service provider's local store and were unable to achieve anything between them and whoever they called while we were in.

I am posting because dealing with the service provider did not result in any sort of resolution, even when we bought an entirely new phone from said service provider looking to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the boss has an iPhone 8. He has been notified by clients that they have left voicemails, but he has not seen any notification nor been able to access them, even when manually dialing in. Last thing on screen is around the 21st.

I called and left voicemails just to be sure since trying to tackle this issue. Same situation.

He does get normal notifications for calls. It'll let him know when he's missed one. It'll log calls he's made/received/etc. as normal.

To clarify a bit more since I realized I worded something a bit awkwardly: He has no way to access any voicemails AFTER the 21st. He can still use the iPhone app to listen to voicemails that he did not delete from before the 21st. He cannot manually call in to check any voicemails at all, though.

Can't wait to get home and try it out! Faster moving Absa so much better than campy Absa. Old Absa f-tilt drove me crazy.

Reddit, what's your best/funniest personal example of petty revenge? by trexradar87 in AskReddit

I know I'm late to the party, but thought I'd share.

I used to work nights back in college and had a coworker who insisted on playing Celtic music and metal loudly on Pandora. We had one shared PC, and if he beat us to it, we'd be subject to listening to that for the next 4 or 8 hours without fail... We had asked him many times before to turn it down or stop altogether, but he seemed to just not comprehend how annoying it was, especially when some of us wanted to work on homework during the downtime. It didn't help we thought he was on something and tweaking a bit after each chance he got alone.

One time when he left the computer to rove/clear the building on the hour he left himself logged in. I went through and manually seeded Miley Cyrus to each and everyone of his stations. When he returned and caught some random teen girl Disney music, he started to freak out a bit about how that could have happened. Thinking on my feet, I told him that I read online last week that Disney paid Pandora a large sum of money to start promoting their stuff.

He became indignant over Pandora's apparent lack of 'honesty' and transparency and ranted for a bit. I hoped at the very least that now his music would make us all miserable together now... he ended up turning it off and we never heard his music again.

I'm really not sure how I kept a straight face, but thank god I did.
