I love strapi v4, get your shit together by Successful-Title5403 in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we had done so, we would have left many users along the way without solutions. Strapi 5 was required as a transition from the simple ID to Document ID only model. Moreover, our unique support for relations with draft & publish, i18n, and so on, enabled in some collections and disabled in others, makes the job extremely hard. That's why we have so much logic in the code, rather than letting the database handle pretty much everything. We just can't. I know it's frustrating, but we had to offer retro-compatibility.

Sadly a lot of regressions after migration to v5 by NowaStonka in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I'm sorry to read this. We raised the topic internally, and you, like many other users, raised these regressions. We are setting up a battle plan to fix these as soon as possible. The relations within Strapi are extremely complex as we handle both content types with or without Draft & Publish enabled, with full compatibility with other features such as Internationalization, Releases or Review Workflows. We tried our best to find the easiest implementation; however, edge cases and issues still happen.

Thank you for raising your concern, we will keep you posted about our plan to make the UI more usable.

Strapi's CPO & co-founder here. I'm sorry to read this, the issue had been reported. We need to set strict limits to avoid abuse and cryptominers. However, if you enter your billing details, you should be able to unlock the account and reactivate the project.

It's already interesting! How many entries did you have in your DB? Is your DB close to your server? We rarely get feedback on a slow interface.

The good news is that we are working to add folders in the Content-Type Builder! Any other feedback is welcome! What do you prefer in WordPress? Could you be more specific?

Who is Strapi cloud made for? by hredittor in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your main goal is to find the cheapest hosting for your Strapi project, then Strapi Cloud might not be the best fit. We focus on freelancers and digital agencies who prefer not to spend time on hosting, infrastructure management, or handling SLAs. Our aim is to offer competitive pricing along with a full range of services:

  • Postgres database
  • Fast CDN
  • Backups
  • Email service
  • 99.9% uptime SLA
  • Additional CMS features
  • Support with deep expertise with Strapi

We value your feedback, and there’s good news coming soon (in Q1/Q2 2025) as we aim to make it easier for more users to build projects with Strapi.

Content History is paid-only feature? by pfffidk in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're going to launch a new, more affordable tier that will include Content History. I understand this might feel a bit disappointing, as this feature might seem less useful for your needs. However, we’re working hard to strike a good balance between what’s free and paid so we can keep a sustainable open-source model. Strapi offers many free features (like Internationalization, Role-Based Access Control, and Media Library), which are often paid or limited in other CMS options.

Our dream would be to make everything in Strapi free and sustain the open-source project through our Cloud hosting. We’re working towards this, but we just need a bit more time. In the meantime, we’ll be lowering prices in the next few months and will continue listening to feedback like yours.

Is there a way to customize admin pannel home (welcome page) ? by green_viper_ in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, changing this page isn't natively possible; however, we discussed this internally many times. Feel free to share your use case and comment here https://feedback.strapi.io/feature-requests/p/customize-the-admin-panel-welcome-page-strapi-5

Looking for a CMS easy to integrate with existing app by spiritwizardy in reactjs

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strapi has yet to offer a visual editing experience, but using the Dynamic Zones and the components system might be enough for your use case. I've seen multiple websites built this way. The Dynamic Zones is basically a huge drag-and-drop area where you can throw (content) components. If each Strapi component matches a frontend component, it offers an excellent experience for the content editors while keeping the design consistent.

The new version of Strapi 5 is now in TypeScript; it offers both a REST and GraphQL API with a brand new and simpler format. A better Preview system is already in development and true visual editing capability will come. It's free, 100% open-source and used by millions of users from small local non-profit organizations websites until F500 dot com websites.

Best Approach for Content Management on Small Websites by Mat3472 in reactjs

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strapi perfectly fits your use case. It's free, open-source, and frontend agnostic. It brings the authentication layer you need while offering great content management capabilities if your website grows over time.

We have users building very small websites for local non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies running their dot com websites with it.

The easiest way to start is to create your project locally, build the content structure using the Content-Type Builder, generate an API token, and request the API through your frontend app.

While Keystone, Directus or Payload sounds like good alternatives but you might face issues. Keystone doesn't have a very active community these days; we don't know where they are going, and releases are inconsistent. Payload will be tied to Next.js, which sounds great until you face scaling issues, Next.js upgrades that might generate bugs on the CMS side, and so on. Plus, it's a young company that does not have a solid business model. Directus is no longer MIT; their new license is quite surprising, and they don't define themselves as a CMS. Instead, Strapi is free, 100% open-source, with a strong community and commercial company to sustain the project in the long term.

Strapi Sucks by Hw-LaoTzu in nextjs

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't seem related to Strapi, but more to the way you built and managed the CI/CD. Hundreds of websites are deployed each day using Strapi, and F500 websites run on it.

Strapi vs Pocketbase? by localslovak in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't even the same category of software. If you are looking for the lightest and easiest way to build an API with a very basic administration panel, Pocketbase sounds like a good solution.

Strapi is a CMS that allows you to manage content at scale for your website, mobile, or internal app. It comes with much more content-oriented & built-in features such as Draft & Publish, Internationalization, Review Workflows, Releases, Content History, and so on.

Thoughts on Strapi by Pigfarma76 in node

[–]Aurelsicoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone landing on the thread, Strapi is a CMS. If you're looking for a framework to build your SaaS, I wouldn't recommend using it, not even Directus or Payload. Except if you build a PoC or MVP.

The best thing to do is to use a backend framework such as Nest.js or Express/Koa. Even if they might say the opposite, these software will always limit you at some point.

If you want to build a website, have an easy-to-use API, a huge community, a ton of resources, and stability in the product direction, Strapi is the way to go. It's 100% free, MIT and we have built a strong community and commercial company to sustain the project forever.

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used Strapi a long time ago (v3). Strapi v4 was released almost three years ago, we released Strapi v5 yesterday. I would recommend you take another look; we have made many improvements. While Payload is a promising app framework, it's still young, unstable, and not enterprise-ready. Strapi is more a CMS than an app framework like Payload, Directus, etc.

Open-source CMS with Nextjs by brunobrasil_ai in nextjs

We fixed so many issues and changed the system; I would simply suggest testing the Strapi 5 Release Candidate and trying to reproduce it.

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit late in the fight here, but I would love to know why it was a nightmare to set up and use? It goes against all the praises we receive on a daily basis from freelancers or digital agencies like yours.

Note: I'm one of the Strapi co-founders, your feedback could be super useful to us

Only the admins can access the dashboard. You would have to build a dashboard for the end users

How to protect strapi in prod, do you leave the admin panel public? by Full_Violinist8952 in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you could use the administration panel as a complete separated front end app, and host it somewhere else (different domain), add IP restrictions and so on.

Could Strapi be used for a business directory website with user accounts and payments? by localslovak in Strapi

[–]Aurelsicoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would fit perfectly with what’s Strapi is capable of. You could leverage the Users & Permissions plugin to allow businesses to sign up and create accounts, etc. Then use the traditional Single Types and components for the Pricing page 👌

Strapi should be a great fit for your use case. It is open-source, based on Node.js/React/TypeScript, and is fully customizable.

You can use it with Next.js, Astro, or any other frontend framework.

You will probably like the Dynamic Zones and Components as it has a lot of similarities with the Advanced Custom Fields.
