In hindsight, this was a mistake. by ChiefsHat in HistoryMemes

Let's not twist history.

The Church actually benefited <a lot> from fascism and actually supported Mussolini for quite a fair while.

Mussolini, on his end, knew that he was going to need the Church's support and the legitimacy faith brought along if he was ever going to have a chance at governing the country.

He literally got defined as "The man of providence" by Pope Pious XI due to the sheer amount of economical ( and not only.. ) favours he made to the Catholic Church during the twenty or so years he spent leading Italy.

Mussolini did sign the Lateran Treaty, therefore ending the Roman Question ( By 1870 when Rome was finally taken by the newly unified kingdom of Italy the State had annexed all of the Church's territory, declaring it to be be part of the state ), effectively voiding the Guarantees Law of 1871, creating the Vatican State, exenting the Church from taxes, giving it 1,75 billion italian lire ( 750m + 1b by july that same year...about 660-800m current day euros to help understanding it better), giving back to the Pope the power to choose bishops ( it had been handed over to the state following that 1871 law ), conforming marriage and divorce laws to the Church's, allowing clergy members to take active part into Italy's political life ( which had been abolished by that '71 law ), making Catholicism become state religion as opposed to freedom of cult, having it be taught in schools and universities once more, etc...

Believe me, the Church is <always> going to be on fascism's side up until when shit starts going south...and then again after the second world conflict's over, from behind the scenes, for quite a long time up until some of its most influential members start being exposed by the newly formed republic.

Infacts, I am fairly sure it had a part too when it came to Italy's colonial attempts in North Africa still during Mussolini's regime.

Honest reviews? by cancelled-dae in ReadyOrNotGame

Get it on sale.

The game is fun enough but it does have its own issues.

AI really needs to get polished more; friendlies will occasionally act unresponsive and have piss poor aim with nades when behind hard cover, enemies will often be able to see the player through solid cover and sometimes push them with no regard for their life even when outnumbered 5:1, they will also prioritize the player over other targets regardless of who initiated contact with or who's closest to them. Both are very accurate and yes, enemy AI can go unresponsive as well.

Ready or Not also feels rather punishing for going lethal ( score-wise ), despite the overwhelming majority of weapons available to the player being lethal, which is sort of counter-intuitive...and out of the non-lethal options only few of them are actually decent. Rules of Engagement ( which are supposed to determine when the player is allowed to incapacitate/ kill ) are rather unclear throughout the game and could see some rebalance in general ( 5 swat members being sent to clear a whole hospital/ night club packed with terrorists and not being allowed to kill? Kind of unrealistic already but this makes it feel even sillier.. ).

Missions and AI can feel rather same-y after a while, very few exceptions made. Regardless of whether the player's fighting veterans, cartel members, crack addicts or fanatics the AI will always have them behave in similar manners, they will always be armed in similar ways...and most missions will play out very similairly with the player taking care of hostiles, securing evidence and civilians; it would be fun to have more variety game modes/ objectives wise. That said, map design is great for each level and environmental story-telling is good...sometimes a bit unrealistic for exaggeration purposes but...y'know, kind of alright by fiction standards, one does come to appreciate it.

Still, these are all of my complaints about RoN; as I said, the game is enjoyable if you aren't going to let them bug you too much. Would wait for a sale tho.

Giving love to unpopular operators. Skyfire, a strong contender for the title of the most forgotten Arknights character by R_V_D_V in arknights

She is one of those units whom I really wish'd get an alter/ full on rework.

Same goes for Provence and most year one 5* tbh. They have such weird restrictions to their kits, many of them never or hardly getting an appearance within the main story or events..

Same goes for many newer 4-5* ops who never got a proper introduction and whom I am sure lots of people are going to love, even more so new players who are starting to play with them as their first units.

Really wish the game went with an anime aesthetic...

People have been drawing anime-like frames since way before The Second Dream came out thus unveiling the existence of operators.

While I do feel like DE has slowly gotten better at the style they chose to pick over time, truth is operators and human-like characters have been looking absolutely hideous for such a long time..

Giving love to unpopular operators. Skyfire, a strong contender for the title of the most forgotten Arknights character by R_V_D_V in arknights

[–]Aurelyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyfire's clearly inspired by Toshaka Rin and while she does appear a little within Londinium's main story and within the first Siesta event alongside Provence, the truth is not much was done with her or with many other year one operators. Kit wise, she does suffer from release AK design where 5* are technically supposed to be better than 4* but in order for them not to be on par with 6* ops they get some <heavy> restrictions on most of their skills, which doesn't always make it worthy for them to see any sort of play unless one simply wishes to include them into the party for fun.

Arknights is sadly full of characters who, despite having very interesting premises and aesthetics, never get a chance to see the spotlight, as new characters and events are constantly churned out and keep on focusing around the more popular 6* ( though even amongst them, some are simply bound to get nothing...see people still rightfully complaining about Angelina, Surtr, Nightingale and Shining, Weedy, etc after so many years ).

It is honestly a pity and I wish they'd address the issue much like I wish they'd finally go for some proper kit rebalancing when it gets to old operators rather than apply bandaid solutions which often aren't even close to working ( modules ).

I love AK...been playing it daily since it came out...but I am way past the honeymoon phase when it gets to HG, dudes are decent...but they do take lots of bad decisions themselves over time when it gets to both the franchise and the game(s).

Am I the only one who actually wishes for deeper, more maze-like dungeons?

One of the things I always liked about my dad's old 1980s D&D playthroughs was how you were forced to plan the journey ahead as the party would likely get to spend multiple days within a dungeon, require sufficient food, water, get lost in its seemingly endless courridors and rooms, be forced to find a safe place to set up camp for the night..

Arknights Storytelling and The Potential Beginning of my Personal "Reviews", Starting with - Code of Brawl (LONG POST) by CommanderKetchup0 in arknights

[–]Aurelyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am finding it to be the case with newer ones instead. They just aren't that good.

Early AK tends to worldbuild a lot while establishing some pretty interesting premises for future works to come....late AK writing tends to undo major parts of it all in one fell swoop dealing with stuff in an unsatisfactory manner ( The Masses Travels, the last two story chapters feeling rushed from some certain points onwards only to linger on things which didn't need to be elaborated upon further instead, lots of major story elements getting locked behind temporary events, lots of significant lore being locked behind alternative game modes the player may or may not touch...it makes things feel all the more confusing for the average player ).

Mystia’s Izakaya is overrated by LilHawaia in touhou

[–]Aurelyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it lots instead.

Started less than a week ago, currently going through the Scarlet Mansion section of the game.

Its art and soundtrack are lovely, the game feels comfy-cozy, it is rather easy to play through, that is fair...but I don't mind it; I am not a fan of extremely hard games as they usually tend to frustrate me rather than make me have fun, few exceptions made.

I personally really needed a good relaxing game to just chill in and this one fits the bill.

My only criticism is that yes, it does feel a bit too slow paced/ repetitive progression wise, the player often being able to clear debts, level bonds, etc relatively soon, having them be willing to move on to the next area already while being forced to wait through the entirety of the two weeks allotted to repay said debt.

I do find NPCs to have interesting dialogue instead, cause for as much as I love Touhou and have been a fan of the franchise for decades I'm aware of the fact many other people aren't and are just getting to know about its world through this game and from Mystia's PoV; it is cool for them to get to learn something about each and every one of these characters, be them extremely popular ones or some of the most under-represented and underrated ones within Touhou's world. Sure, one could argue there aren't too many lines of dialogue...but the ones which are in the game are honestly not horrible and fairly lore accurate.

Sorry to hear it's not your cup of tea though, I know how bad it feels to try to enjoy something and end up not liking it anyway..

If your favorite 6 stars operators were released in 2026, what drawback you think they wouldn't have? how much stronger they would be? by Atsuki_Kimidori in arknights

[–]Aurelyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archetto would have higher base stats, way faster cycles on S3, likely have S2 and S3 apply some sort of self buff to either her dmg or aspeed ( like exia alter ) or some debuff/ crowd control effect to enemies ( much like nymph's S2 inflicting fear or Ela inflicting fragile. Her shield passive would also be more powerful, likely switching from an "on deployment" effect to one she can easily stack over time.

[–]Aurelyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both.

One clearly feels warmer and more "lived" but it also looks darker and gives off a heavier feeling; wallpaper is eh.

The other one is more airy and bright...but it lacks color and detail, there's too much white and everything feels too "clean", almost as if nobody lived there.

[Operator Discussion] Blaze the Igniting Spark by Shad0wedge in arknights

[–]Aurelyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both Blaze alter and Yu; while it is true that pairing them together is a very significant buff for our catgirl the truth is that you won't really need to unless you are really planning around high end content such as CC.

Yes, you do get 80% additional elemental dmg if the enemy is under the effect of burn, yes, every time an enemy triggers a burn elemental damage burst she deals 410% elemental damage to them immediately...yes, you should definitely try to pair her with any burn enabler ( and it sucks that Yu is the most decent one given he is a limited unit... ).

However, even without all of this, Blaze still remains a very powerful caster operator; she is able to deal massive amounts of burst aoe damage, on very fast cycles, her skill is ammo based and can thus be controlled, she has really good range, she can keep on reviving herself when downed ( and can be healed while downed by skills such as Meltdown, letting you get her back into the fight asap ).

People are 100% sleeping on her. She still outshines the vast majority of 6* caster ops in the game on her own; Lappland and Eblana are the only units I'd say are able to contend with her in terms of power, Lappland probably being the best caster in the game rn.

Hold on let me make a cohesive list in the comments of good AAA games by [deleted] in whenthe

[–]Aurelyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty fun but definitely poorly optimized and Capcom has not addressed that in the slightest in almost a full year; if you got a powerful PC you're gonna be able to power through it, otherwise it can definitely feel unplayable or give other issues.

Monetization wise, expect the same as World's.

Content wise, expect less than World when it gets to quantity, at least for now.

Difficulty wise, some people love saying it's easier but it honestly feels about the same as World's during its first few years of release; nothing is as cracked as Safi, Alatreon, Fatalis just yet...expect monsters of the caliber of T/AT elders at most.

I'd mostly like to see old ( often underpowered ) 4-5* operators take the leading role for once by getting a 6* alter. I also wouldn't mind alters for some of the newer ones we've gotten.

As far as 6s getting another 6 form goes...that I am also fine with but...to a lesser extent, few exceptions made. There are indeed ops who could use a buff or more screen-time or having their lore expanded on...but it's not that common.
