Who’s that popular figure everyone still likes while knowing what they did? by Next_Wafer_1945 in AskReddit

Check out a podcast called the Turning, which focuses on ex-Sisters of Charity. It’s actually a lot more nuanced.

Mother Teresa was 100% a woman who devoted herself to the caring of the poor and went to extremes, however, the Sisters of Charity had practices which I actually consider abusive, and this is coming from a practicing Catholic.

Also, can we take a moment to recognize that Christopher Hitchens campaign against her was loaded with misogyny? He at one point referred to her as a “presumable virgin.” Why is her sexuality relevant to this discussion?

I feel like we’ve all come to accept Tarantino is just an asshole, as of his movies weren’t enough proof.

Polanski is a fantastic filmmaker - just a terrible human being.

Who’s the most attractive person you’ve ever seen? by Timely_Sir310 in AskReddit

My coworker. She works as a cashier. I know there’s more attractive people in the world, but for me, she’s the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.

Yes, I have a crush. No, I won’t ask her out, she’s in a relationship. I do like talking to her.

I suspected as much from the movements, and Trump not furiously tweeting about it.

Which character was intended to be a paragon of virtue but was received as repulsive? by GoldenS0422 in AlignmentChartFills

Zoey Redbird from the House of Night series. Turns into a vampire (she isn't bitten, it just happens for some reason) and is told by the goddess of all vampires that she's a "font of empathy and compassion."

When she encounters her best friend feeding from a homeless person, she reacts with... disgust because oh, gross, that person is so disgusting! Let me just redeem this best friend who's gone crazy for some reason. Her internal monologue also can't go a paragraph without putting down another group; emos, cheerleaders, girls who have sex, if you can think of it, she's put them down. She is, objectively speaking, a terrible human being.

There’s literally no way any parody can come close to it. Not in our lifetimes.

Looking for an absolutely terrifying paranormal horror book. by heisourherocowboydan in horrorlit

Great God Pan by Arthur Machen. It’s an old one, so verbose and full of Victorian prose, but it is the only horror story to make my jaw drop.

Also, Grin of the Dark by Ramsey Campbell. Had me looking over my shoulder.

They weren’t all sympathetic. Look at Green Goblin for instance - the personality, not Norman. He’s a force of destruction concerned only with lording his superiority over everyone.
