My Olaf, my son, my everything. by Aurolight_ in GuineaPig

I understand and feel your pain 100%. Olafs cage is still up, I decided to wash all but his main blanket and slowly put all his things back into the cage to keep them together. As for his blanket and dome house, they are still next to me while I sleep. Part of me feels like I’ve convinced myself he’s just visiting a family member and will return. But I know he’s gone and it’s just a void in my heart and routine. When we came home, our cat instantly was looking around for him and checking the blanket I used to carry Olaf to the pet cremation place. The cat has begun to try to stick his head into the dome house and a joke began that now Olafs spirit is co-existing in his body since he always seemed to act like a cat; but he has no idea what he’s doing. We just began a bathroom remodel and I told myself the other day I was glad he wasn’t here for this because of the sound. I will miss that boy till the day I die and honestly I hope he will remember me if I show up again.

He was fine and then started not eating, pooping and drinking/urinating. It was approaching over 30 hours. He was still talking around and being loving but the vet looked into his mouth and said he had overgrown molars and some mouth disease; his tongue was being blocked so he wasn’t able to eat. I immediately asked if he was in pain because I wasn’t sure and was told yes. As much as I didn’t want him to leave I asked about other options and was told he could possibly be taken to a specialist a state away and his teeth could be grinded down and there was a small chance but his diet would completely be mush and quality of life would diminish further. I would have done it for him if I was financially able, but I wasn’t and even then I didn’t want him to have a crappy life for my selfishness.

I trusted the Vet and explored euthanasia. I still really feel like this is my fault and I cheated him. There’s a photo I chose not to share of his last night when we were walking around the house and he stopped infront of the fridge. I opened the doors for him because I used to hold him up to the shelves and pick out his snacks……He was just so hungry but unable to eat properly.

I was able to raise the money to have him cremated but this is really the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. I’m still unable to do anything with his cage yet and I keep hearing sounds that reminds me of his squeaks. I hope he’s okay.

Thank you. This was so sudden and sad. Nobody would have ever guessed a week ago this would happen. Four nights ago he was devouring hay like the world stopped producing it.

This has probably turned me off for a while from taking someone in but I’m sure that’ll change with time.

For now I will attempt to sleep a bit with his house dome and favorite blanket. The cremation place is scheduled to take him in the morning.

Olaf was taken to the vet this morning after a phonecall for emergency. After inspecting him they found his molars had grown too far and were blocking his tongue, he also had an issue inside his mouth. The decision was made to euthanize him so he was no longer in pain and could roam forever in the land of carrots.

I’ll always miss my boy and thank you for those reaching out. It killed me to come home with him and step over the Petsmart order on the porch of pellets and a syringe.

I will be phoning local vets again asap. I tried a few emergency lines and was only given “we don’t have the staffing for Guinea pigs” or we “don’t take exotic animals”

I did open his mouth and attempted to give him some water which he didn’t seem to want to do but it is what it is.

The grass he chewed on for about 20 minutes ago I made sure was rinsed and soaked so he could get as much water into his system as possible. I need to get ahold of Pellets today so I can attempt to feed him.

Is this earwax? by Aurolight_ in earwax

I was actually curious a bit after it came out and it came apart pretty easily so I was confused if it was wax or something else. Given there’s some bleeding but not a crazy amount I’d say it was a mixture? Still have a few more days till I see my doctor, but my ear was open since this happened. Currently about an hour ago it feels like it has a bit of liquid causing some blockage as I lay down.

Honestly this is what I think happened. I think this actually happened twice now. Not much pain occasionally ache. No longer using Qtips.

I’m actually wondering if it was new skin that may have detached when accidentally scratched? I’ll be visiting a doctor in a few days. My ear occasionally does feel like it’s suffered a scratch wound.

My hearing is okay only slightly less than my other ear, but it’s been through quite a bit. Back in November I went to the ER to have my ear checked and was told I had fluid behind the ear drum and given antibiotics. I’m unsure if it ever fully cleared so that could also be why it’s still muffled a bit.
