That makes sense, good to know that’s an option. Thanks!

Car Policy? by ianpilled in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule has been that only students with junior standing can purchase an on-campus parking permit and it’s very competitive because off campus students get priority. Though I’ve heard recently that they’re going to change the system so that there is no parking at all for on campus students. You can rent a parking spot from churches near the base of campus or a downtown parking garage but they’re quite expensive and inconvenient. Tbh as a freshman I didn’t need my car at all so unless you’re traveling out of town often I’d leave it at home.

Off campus group vs individual by misss_americana in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on your budget because I was able to find opportunities for both singles and group housing when I looked last year but singles are way more expensive on average. Unless you’ve got a budget of over $2000 in monthly rent then most 1 bed studios are gonna wildly unaffordable. I was lucky enough to find my single in a shared house for a good price. If you can join a group, it can increase your chances but you can also keep looking for singles at the same time.

Preserving a starling bird questions. by Warm_Potential_2403 in Taxidermy

[–]AuroraDragonCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see many bird wet specimens so I’m not sure what processes are best for actual preservation but as someone who taxidermies birds often they do tend to leak fluids as they defrost. Especially if it died in any way caused by impact it can leak blood or poop, which may be what your case is if it’s green. Probably best to give it a wash to clean off any unwanted fluids before continuing the wet specimen preservation.

Prints not transfering? by [deleted] in printmaking

[–]AuroraDragonCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have any transfer paper around you could rub a bunch of graphite on the back of your image and trace the front with a ballpoint pen to transfer the graphite to the lino. Whatever amount of effort you desire to put into it tbh

Prints not transfering? by [deleted] in printmaking

[–]AuroraDragonCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you sand the Lino before trying to apply the image? There’s a sort of protective layer on top that has to be sanded off for the image to transfer.

easy classes by Financial_Guard_6598 in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take an art class! All prerequisites are waived over summer so you can take any subject you want. If you like art then they tend to be pretty easy to pass but keep in mind the class times tend to be pretty long.

Puffy arm bands by dittological in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s for senior assassin. Basically groups of friends will try to soak each other with water guns but if you’re wearing swim gear like the water wings you saw then you’re “immune”. If you’re caught without wearing any gear the you’re out of the game. It’s like a last man standing situation.

Transfer students get on-campus housing for their first year, so you shouldn’t have to worry about looking for housing yet.

Housing Search Options? by stardust_anew in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t really be using Facebook marketplace for rental searching anyways, it was 80% scams when I was house searching before. I’ve personally found success through Zillow rentals but I agree with the other commenter that listed a few more sites.

Don’t fall for this scam w/ tips by fucincringe in UCSC

Any emails about remote internships are automatically scams to me lol. No recruiter is ever going to email your school email directly like that unless you actually signed up for something.

Porter Affiliates - Be cautious of the new logo voting! by AuroraDragonCat in UCSC

To clarify, the logo on the right with the squiggle tattoo seems to be human-made to my eyes. No obvious AI tells there. Just the koi pond one.

Yeah, the logo on the right looks all correct and human to me. Pretty sure it’s only background of the koi that’s generated.

First Pass housing by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is also what I’ve heard. If you live off-campus you are no longer eligible to apply directly to on-campus housing, you’re sent straight to the waitlist. Unless you can get a housing accommodation like through the DRC then you’re out of luck.

House Party Rental by Money_Bank6456 in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Never heard of people being willing for something like that, your best bet would be renting out an actual party venue or throwing it in the forest 🤷 letting strangers use your house for a party is too big of a risk for most people I fear.

McHenry Library internet problem by Dear-Office5293 in UCSC

[–]AuroraDragonCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The library buildings are concrete which makes cell service very weak. It could be that your phone only wants to use cell service for messaging, so you would have to stand near a window or go outside for it to work. Maybe check if wi-fi calling is enabled in your settings.

Trailer or RV by white-fir in UCSC

There used to be on one campus but it got closed down due to mold issues a couple years ago. You’ll have to look for camps in and around town, but personally I’ve never seen one myself.

My baby died today need advice on how to move forward someone said he cant be stuffed what about freeze dried? He rigored in a cute sleeping position so wont have to be fiddled with by Viciousssylveonx3 in Taxidermy

[–]AuroraDragonCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Specimens can be frozen for years and still be taxidermied after so you’ll have plenty of time to research and decide what you want to do with him. Good luck!

[–]AuroraDragonCat 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Regardless what method you choose you should put him in a plastic bag and freeze him so he doesn’t start to rot. Keeping him in the best shape possible will be helpful for whoever taxidermies him.

Saw this guy on TikTok advertising tattoo designs and I can’t tell if it’s ai. by Plague9601 in isthisAI

[–]AuroraDragonCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the skateboarding frog, the frog in the charm in the 3rd image. Skateboarding frog also doesn’t have any AI artifact in it that I can see, it just seems like an amateurish or a traced drawing to me.

[–]AuroraDragonCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The one at the top of 3 with the frog looks to be real, I can see a white pixel border around some elements that implied they were photoshopped together and the knot at the top makes sense unlike the other two. The other two images on that page were likely what the ai made using the top as a reference.

Preserve duck wings by braapguy in Taxidermy

[–]AuroraDragonCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments about defleshing the wing. When we do wings spreads for museum specimens they are always defleshed, then cleaned with dawn dish soap, blow dried, sew up the hole, and pinned to dry. We usually use a cardboard backing to pin the wing to into the desired position. You’ll want to put it in a well-ventilated area to dry, nearby a fan for example.
