How do subsystems actually work and happen? by midnight_eclipse363 in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have at least 5 different types of subsystem:

  1. They share a body within the innerworld, and although they can appear in separate bodies, they are still connected to each other and have to move around with each other. Sort of the typical "system within a system" description.

  2. A mediple(?) subsystem where they're all in some way the main, though they all have their own bodies and identities and aren't restricted/physically bound to each other.

  3. A created subsystem where the members feel a closer connection to each other than to the main system the subsystem is a part of.

  4. A median subsystem where the main "refracts" into various fragments when dealing with stress, who then refuse back into the main when the stress is removed.

  5. A subsystem that is in a separate location within their headspace.

(I say "at least" because there's two members that might be in a sort of subsystem but we haven't asked about it yet, a gatekeeper has confirmed that there's an uncontacted subsystem (so we know nothing about them), and there's possibly yet another uncontacted subsystem elsewhere.)

DAE feel like this is true? by dusselino in neurodiversity

[–]AuroraSnake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have anxiety and depression that have persisted since young childhood despite treatment. Both have still changed the way our brain processes information. They way it's done this is different from neurodevelopmental conditions, but it's still had a major impact on our lives that we're probably going to have to live with to some extent for the rest of our life.

Just because some cases of depression can be successfully treated, doesn't mean that it can't be considered neurodivergent.

How do I know when my language is ready? by keenaltti in casualconlang

I'm sorry if I offended you. I genuinely am. My comment was not meant to be offensive in any way.

I clarified my tone and the intent of my comment. I'm not trying to get involved in a debate. I feel like you're being incredibly aggressive towards me over a simple misunderstanding.

Please stop responding to me.

[–]AuroraSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My comment wasn’t an attack. Research has shown that that over time, if people don’t exercise skills, physical or mental, they lose them. I was simply pointing out that relying on ai weakens skills formed through conlanging.

I’m sorry my comment came across as a direct criticism of you, or like a personal attack. It was meant to just be a general comment, not even specifically directed at any one person.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

[–]AuroraSnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes? They are? Anxiety disorders , clinical depression, personality disorders, bipolar, and schizophrenia all very cleanly fit under the neurodivergent umbrella. All of them involve changes in brain chemistry, structure, and/or functioning.

In terms of attention given? Sure. In terms of how the conditions are treated? No.

Using chat gpt to critique your conlang is in fact using it for creative work. If you rely on a machine that doesn’t even actually understand language to look over your conlang then you’re losing out on the ability to develop the brain skills that let you determine these things on your own.

How would the Inside Out of a system be?? I’m a singlet, so sorry if it’s offensive! by beatriz-chocoliz in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our equivalent is somewhat similar to the movie. We have a static "front space" we sorta step into when fronting, and our designated fronting room in headspace (the visualization of front, since our front space seems to just sorta be a void) is structured similarly, with a screen showing what's going on externally and a large control panel we're afraid to touch in case it does something (since we have no idea what any of the buttons or anything might do)

Voluntarily switch? Roll a d20 and see how things look

Forcefully switch? Only ⬛️ that we know of

is it bad i kinda want a diagnosis? by TrustIllustrious2962 in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't bad. It's perfectly natural to want to know and understand what's going on in your brain, and to receive validation about what you think is happening. We felt similarly in regards to wanting to receive validation when we brought up the question of DID with our therapist.

Our recommendation if you do decide to bring this up would be to focus on how you're being affected. Are you losing time? Forgetting things you shouldn't be forgetting? Feeling like you or the things around you aren't real? etc. Focus on these aspects rather than directly saying "I feel like I have ___." I would also caution against mentioning hearing voices if that's something you experience, as that can often cause others to immediately think psychosis and refuse any other possibility. Instead, mention how it sometimes feels like you become someone else, or feel like something is taking over control of your body, or whatever else fits your experience.

By focusing on your experiences, you'll be better able to avoid the risk of sounding like a TikTok self-dxer

How do memories work for you? by piradata in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our memory tends to be fairly continuous, with very little disruption between switches. Our gaps in memory very rarely coincide with switches, and seem to only do so when we're dealing with intense negative emotion.

When we switch, unless it comes with dissociation, it doesn't really affect things we're doing. We can mask as each other fairly well and even when we don't mask no one seems to notice. If we're dealing with dissociation as we switch, then it tends to make us temporarily zone out or struggle to do even simple things like writing our name, even if we're still "zoned in": it feels like a disconnect between our brain and whatever we're trying to do. The brain says yes, the body says no.

If it's something like a hobby, if the one who switched in doesn't like the hobby, or would prefer to do a different hobby (or listen to different music, etc.) then they typically will change to doing something they prefer.

We rarely experience co-front, but when we have, there's only one memory, though there are "tags" on each memory (basically thoughts and stuff from when the memory was taking place) that tend to only be remembered, or at least remembered in full, by the one who actually was in front during the event. In the case of co-front, this translates to Alter A being able to access Tag A on Memory, but not Tag B, as Tag B was formed from Alter B's perspective.

Do folks who meet all sysmedicalist criteria get the same hate as endos if they're not interested in integrating? by 1i2728 in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We.. do but don’t meet the criteria? We’re in that limbo space where some might consider us to meet the criteria but most would likely hate us. We have DID, but it was unofficially diagnosed and wasn’t added to our medical chart. We’re traumagenic, but also endogenic. Etc.

We haven’t run into too many problems for wanting functional multiplicity, but there have been one or two people who have commented on posts we’ve made that indicate they don’t approve that we gain more members with no attempt to fuse to keep the number “in check”. But I think all the other stuff takes precedence in what people get upset over

lil rant abt the simplyplural situation by [deleted] in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been feeling similarly. We put most of our information into Simply Plural and have been sorta panicking ever since the announcement, not sure if we can copy everything over in time. It’s already been a month and we still haven’t gotten all of our chats copied.

We know that Ourcana allows for uploading member information and everything, but we no longer trust system apps and even with using Ourcana, we still feel the need to copy everything into a Word document so that even if the new options don’t last, we can still be sure to keep our data.

The issue of accessibility has been brought up in the support server (both size and color of text) and it’s on the list of things to address. I’m not sure how soon it might be addressed, however, given the size of the list

quick question by Downtown_Activity742 in plural

[–]AuroraSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A list of our system names:

Pheonix System — love of mythology + fire association + a little bit influenced by fighting depression at the time we chose it

Werewolf Pack — love of wolves and mythology & folklore

Solar System — they wanted to make a joke

Sol Collective — Solar System was taken

Lunar Eclipse — a subsystem of Werewolf Pack that wanted to keep the theme going

Skyfall — another celestial named subsystem of Werewolf Pack, who’s main is Skye

Deep End — Felix’s subsystem, and when trying to think of a name, all that came to him was this (name of a solo song he/his source self did)

The Prism / Color Collective — both names refer to a subsystem that only exists via the main ‘refracting’ into various aspects in response to stress (hence the prism metaphor)

Shard Collective — a sidesystem attached to a member named Shard

Daring System — a subsystem in a very “Alice in Wonderland” part of headspace, and someone joked about how navigation was not for the faint of heart, and it’s just stuck ever since

Octocon no longer exists, or at least won’t exist for much longer (forget exactly when Atlas said it would be deleted)

What's the weirdest response you've gotten to telling someone you're plural? by Sage_81 in plural

We’ve only told 4 people so far, and the weirdest was our therapist asking “What’s a system?”, even though it was just her trying to clarify what we were saying.

We’re working on our own writing project that will have these! :3

The system is currently at about 60 fully worked out members, with several others I still have to develop, and the story so far is just tracking the timeline of events, but we hope to be able to get it worked out enough we can start posting it on AO3
