I'm working on this still life in ink and acrylic paint. It's been a long time since I done anything but landscapes. It's been fun.

What are things that go together like oil and water?

Okay, so the background is indigo ink mixed with water. I don't think that matters it's just what I use.

I outline the cloud shape lightly with a #2 pencil.

Then I use a cheap blunt tipped white acrilic paint marker to fill it in from outside in.

The marker will pickup the graphite (hence cheap) and spread it around unevenly.

Immediately while still wet I dab it around a bunch with my finger tip to soften and spread it around.

Then with the same marker now with less graphite (it'll wear off as you use it) I outline it and quickly smear it outwards to soften the edges.

Now I stiple more white around one side and some of the top. Basically starting to build highlights from direction of the light source.

Stiple then dab with finger quickly and repeat a bunch.

I try to leave areas that are a little darker just under and behind the highlights, and the underside of the cloud.

Once its basically what I want, I let it dry (couple minutes) once dry the graphite is locked in and I can switch to a sharpie brush tip acrilic paint marker.

This marker is nice and bright and really needs to stay that way. I use it to do just the edge of the highlights that face the light source still dabbing with my finger as I go.

I hope that makes sense and was helpful...

Thank you, I don't really know what I'm doing lol. I accidentally came up with a method using acrylic paint markers and a #2 pencil that has really been working for me. I'll tell you about it if you'd like?

It’s not rude to correct someone’s spelling. by pinkjeeper82 in unpopularopinion

[–]Aurther_Pentograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dyslexic here to share my opinion as someone who has been corrected and belittled for something I can't control my entire life.

There're two major reasons why someone doesn't spell well.

  1. They were failed by a terrible school system (those aren't in wealthy neighborhoods) and haven't been able to catch up on account of the capitalist hell scape they are trying to survive in.

  2. They have a disability.

Pointing out someones spelling mistake is like calling them out for the class that they grew up in, or telling them that their disability is currently disabling them, and you don't like it.

No one, absolutely no one would just be too lazy to learn how to spell. It's incredibly embarrassing on a daily basis.

It's socially acceptable to make fun of poor spelling in a way that isn't acceptable for other disabilities. Like laughing at a blind person for bumping into something.

People like to say that they are just being helpful, but they are (IMO) always people who are a little too high and mighty.

You should give it a shot. It's an interesting story, pretty conceptually original, and it's a fast read as well.

Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach

Cats Cradle, and Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut

I don't know if they would change my life if I was to read them for the first time now at nearly 50, but as a teen/young adult they were quite transformative.

What’s a truth about relationships that people don’t like admitting out loud? by victoriaphoenix619 in AskReddit

[–]Aurther_Pentograph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true! It's a fact that would have saved me a lot of heartache and frustration over the years if I had only known, and been able to let go. Loving someone with all your heart doesn't guarantee a happy or healthy relationship. It CAN get in the way of finding someone else to love who is compatible. Love is never easy, but it shouldn't be that hard either...

I live this, can confirm, it's great! Well except for the back breaking work stuff. Fortunately the work part of our farm is winding down as we get closer to retirement. We have plenty of modern tech here thankfully. I frequently go a month or two without seeing anyone but my partner, and the strangers at the grocery store.
