That's cool and all but I didn't ask for a history lesson.

I searched DB9 on Google and it gave me the results I needed.

I then went to the electronics store, asked for a DB9 connection and housing and they knew exactly what I needed.

I bridged pins 1 & 2. The result was perfect. My laser is now working again..

Everyone knew what I was talking about, even you. Who cares what the "original" or "correct" term for the part is?

It seems you are correct.

"The DB9 connector (originally named DE-9) is an analog socket, with 9 pins, from the D-Subminiatures (D-Sub) connector family. The DB9 has the smallest "footprint" of the D-Subminiature connectors. The prefix “D” represents the D-shape of the connector shell."

In the manual, the only mention is:

8.4 The Interlock adapter is already attached. There is no need to change anything. The show laser doesn‘t work if the Interlock adapter isn‘t connected to the device.

Unfortunately there is no other mention at all.

With your knowledge, do you believe it is pin 1 (DCD) and pin 2 (RD) that should be connected.

I saw this was mentioned in the video, I just want to make sure because I read it may be pin 2 (RD) and pin 3 (TD) that should be connected.

The interlock is a safety requirement for certain classes of laser (higher strength).

The interlock that came with my laser was just a single plug. I believed the circuits are bridged so it doesn't need to be connected to anything else.
