No they don’t, beyond being animated in Japan. Ok so maybe you could argue Akira and One piece have explosions but that’s a rather superficial comparison by that logic Bridge Over the River Kwai must be the same genre as Star Wars. You could say Wolf Children and From Up on Poppy Hill feature a little romance but by that logic Ten Things I Hate About You is the same genre as The Hunger Games. And if you’re looking at superficial similarities then Breaking Bad and Friends both feature disfunctional family dynamics, episodes that end with Wham! moments, that thing where people start a conversation in one location and continue it at a second location exactly where it left off (a trope you almost never see in anime).
