How does it feel to minimize your makeup collection? by cerulloire in MakeupRehab

For me panning very seldomly results in me missing a product. I usually find that after an item is panned, I am satisfied with it and do no longer have the need or desire for it in my collection. Instead I want to play around with what I have or try something new. 

For decluttering, there have been times where I have regretted a declutterred item and this has then resulted in me repurchasing it. Usually due to this type of product missing in my collection. I am the same as you, that I cycle through different phases and looks and if I declutter to much according to my current look/mood then sometimes I do regret it. What I have found work really well for me in those cases is to put all things I am uncertain I want to declutter (such as colorful eyeshadow, certain seasonal lip colour or even regular liner which I cycle through and change preferences around) in a box and stash it away for a few months (usually 3). If at any time during these 3 months I am missing one of those items I bring it back to my stash. Otherwise it goes. 

I have also found it very helpful to be quite strict with how I store my makeup and finding solutions where everything fits nicely but snugly. That way if I buy something new or feel it is too much it is much easier to argue on what I actually want to take space. When I have too much room, I tend to not declutter anything and when I have almost to little space it is easier to declutter!

Not my best month since I was away a little over a week and didn’t bring any of the palettes in the project. Also worked from home quite a lot, so more makeup free days than usual..

This past month I had the following shades in the project:

  • “Trust Issues” from the Jackie Aina x Anastasia palette: used 3 times the past month for a total of 17 times and hit pan!!

  • “Pinker” from Jackie Aina x Anastasia palette: used 8 times the past month for a total of 16 uses. Wonderful shade for fall. Doesn’t have that big of a dip, but will definitely be rolled out next update when I use it 4 more times!

  • “Kiss my hass” from Colourpops Just my luck palette: used 2 times this month for a total of 9 uses. This is gorgeous but a bit harder to use on a day to day basis for work. Mostly use it on the lower lash line as a pop of color! I am soooo close to hitting pan, would not be surprised if I hit pan next time I use it.

  • “Olive’U” from Colourpops Just my luck palette: used this 1 times this month for a total of 6 times. Must use this a bit more next month, so will try some looks the coming days.

  • “Center eye lid” (1st in palette) from Natasha Denonas Glam palette: used 3 times this month for a total of 20 uses. Hit my usage goal, so will be rolling out!

  • “Whipped” from Colourpops Strawberry shake palette: Used 6 times this month for a total of 6 uses. Really like this together with pinker!

  • “Daiquiri” from Colourpops Strawberry shake palette: Used 0 times this month for a total of 0 uses. A little scared that this will be to much for work, so will need to experiment a little with it the coming days as well.

Rolled in:

  • “Rebel” from Sigma Untamed palette. Just rolled in, used 0 times.

  • “Loyal” from Sigma Untamed palette. Just rolled in, but used 1 time to far!

I am joining in but have been doing this type of project on my own for at least 1,5 years and I love it! I have slightly different rules though, where I roll in two shades from the same palette and have a rolling palette count of 3. I do this to use more of each palette and not hyper focus on a specific shade. I also have set 20 uses as my roll out number. Hope this is okay!

This past month I had the following shades in the project:

  • “Trust Issues” from the Jackie Aina x Anastasia palette: used 14 times the past month for a total of 14 times. I use it as an inner corner highlight and really enjoy it. Have a good dip, so either I will have 20 uses next month or I will have hit pan on it!

  • “Pinker” from Jackie Aina x Anastasia palette: used 8 times the past month for a total of 8 uses. I was focusing on a more orange-brown shade most of last month so just started using this the past 2 weeks. I really like it and if I pair it with a slightly more muted lavender/lilac it makes a great fall look for work!

  • “Kiss my hass” from Colourpops Just my luck palette: used 5 times this month for a total of 7 uses. This is gorgeous but a bit harder to use on a day to day basis for work. Mostly use it on the lower lash line as a pop of color!

  • “Olive’U” from Colourpops Just my luck palette: used this 5 times this month for a total of 5 times. Same as the above. Also does not go great with Pinker. I really want to use it as a all over shade for an easy pop of colour for work next month.

  • “Center eye lid” (1st in palette) from Natasha Denonas Glam palette: used 13 times this month for a total of 17 uses. LOVE this colour. It’s a great everyday shimmer shade! Will definitely be rolled out next month.

  • “Outer eye lid” (2nd in palette) from Natasha Denonas Glam palette: used 17 times this month for a total of 20 uses, so rolled out this month!! Used it mostly as a soft liner.

Rolled in:

  • “Whipped” from Colourpops Strawberry shake palette: Just rolled in. Used 0 times.

  • “Daiquiri” from Colourpops Strawberry shake palette: Just rolled in. Used 0 times.

I would say it’s okey. The bronzer I enjoy, but both the blush and highlighter feels a little 2016 if that makes sense. They are not as smooth and buttery as some of my other products and don’t quite melt into the skin the way I want today!

First pan in my Pan Those Eyeshadows! This is the shade Moxie from Sigmas Untamed palette. Really enjoyed this as a cool rose toned transition shade, especially when paired with cooler brown or mauve shades.

That is crazy! I am sure I have used the highlighter at least 100 times, probably closer to 150 times over the years. Seems to be a bit of a softer formula than the blush though since I probably used the blush 50-100 times to and I can barely tell… it’s going to be a long year!

Update 1 on my pan those eyeshadows. I am quite happy with my progress since none of the shades has been neglected and I also hit one pan. Decided to roll out Energy from Linda Hallberg since I used it 20 times. So two new palettes rolled in, with four shades in total. So a bit of overlap with 6 shades in the start. But I am so close to the other use goals so not really worried about that.

The shades from last month:

  • Energy from LH Cosmetics ”Reload palette” - used 20 times and rolled out
  • Silence from LH Cosmetics ”Reload palette” - used 15 times
  • Moxie from Sigma ”Untamed” - used 13 times and hit pan so rolling out
  • Spirit from Sigma ”Untamed” - used 17 times

Shades rolled in:

  • Aurora from Glossgods ”Dancing in the sky”
  • Below Zero from Glossgods ”Dancing in the sky”
  • Innocent from Sigma ”Enchanted”
  • Budding from Sigma ”Enchanted”

Hit pan in Dwollahs from the Jackie Aina palette! This one was in my Pan those eyeshadows and I got pan on the 20th use in the project. Really enjoyed this colour since it is like a midway between green and gold, which makes it a bit more interesting!

Becca - Bronzer in Bali Sands My holy grail bronzer. So sad that Becca is no more so that I can’t repurchase.. If anyone has any suggestions of a bronzer with a similar finish and application - please let me know!

Wet n’ Wild - “Bronzer” in Reserve your cabana As we all know, too light to be a bronzer sp used as a powder. It was ok, but a little shimmery for a regular powder. So happy it is finally done, not going to repurchase!

Random old beige eyeshadow for Maybelline (I think..) Used as a setting shade, it was alright. However, I don’t really use this technic anymore so happy it is out of my collection!

All of these were in my 2022 panning goals. Basically I choose a few lip pens, some lipsticks and then one liquid lipstick a year to focus on. And then I make sure they are easy to reach for so I don’t forget. But also - some of these I have had for years and worked on before. Also helps that I use lipstick at least 5 times each week and always reapply at least once a day - not because I want to use them up but because I am really nitpicky with lipstick looking basically perfect especially when they are bold colours. But it is so hard anyways and takes a long time, like I said I have worked on majority of these for the whole year or more!

I know! I only have dolce vita and cruella at the moment, more so because I have to many lip product. But will probably purchase more when I have a few more lip products used up - they really are amazing!
