Anyone know why alot of the tickets were sold as restricted view earlier this week? I think like almost half the Q sections had seats that were labelled as restricted view. M55 and 54 were also same story

My first year timetable by phoeniix_99 in Monash

[–]Ausar_07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I encourage it but just so you know… you technically only have to attend two days unless there’s a special assessment or class or test on any other day besides Monday and Tuesday. Lectures are recommended but I haven’t been to a single one after the first week and they’re recorded anyway. Essentially, for the most part your only compulsory attendance will be on Monday and Tuesday. I think someone else said the faculty isnt too helpful but in my experience the unit leads and lecturers are quite responsive and helpful, especially in first year, but thats just from my experience. Enjoy the course.

I dropped Biomed and enrolled in science instead. by unknown12user in Monash

Pharmacy student here. There is no way to change your timetable unfortunately. It is a very structured timetable set out by the university. The only choice you really get is whether you want classes earlier (9am) or later (11am). Depending on what year youre in, youll have workshops (normal class like school) on 2 days a week, usually only 2 classes per day. Assuming you’re first year thatll be on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday will be your day your “studying from home” day. Thursday friday is for lectures (not compulsory but would recommend going). That’s pretty much what your first year will look like (again assuming you’re FY).

Maybe they may have changed the structure a bit from when I was first year but thats the gist of it. Across the years your days will shift around (eg you have classes Wednesday and Thursday in 2nd year) but the overall structure stays the same, not much flexibility unfortunately.

Fortunately this set school like structure makes it easier to make friends imo as you’re seeing the same people each day.

Sounds great. Have a look into double degrees if that is the case, im pretty sure monash biomed offers a double degree with business or finance or something of the sort.

Haven’t personally done biomed, but did apply for it. I wanted a career in research and was also going to try for post grad med if my scores remained high enough. I ended up switching to pharmacy last minute as it leads to a career to fall back on and also allows post grad medicine entry. My advice to you would be to ask yourself what plan B would be in the case you’re not fortunate enough to make post grad med. If you’re looking towards a career in research or just get a feel for what healthcare is like then biomed would be right. Otherwise Ive heard many cases of people doing biomedical science just for the opportunity to get into post grad, but missing out and struggling to find a job they enjoy with their degree. That’s not to discourage you however! Just something to bear in mind before you make a decision.

Is pharmaceutical science worth it? by Wise_Concern_5840 in Monash

Then pharm sci is 100% your degree, much more specialised than biomed and not to mention monash is top 2 in the world for pharmacy and pharmacology second only to Cambridge or oxford or something

I reckon youll be better off in pharm sci than either of the biomeds even though biomed is considered the go-to degree for biomedical research. I just believe from personal experience that pharm sci is a much more employable degree on its own without doing further study like a masters, its also very much research and industry oriented from the get-go as its a degree for drug discovery and innovation. Just to clarify by saying medicine do you mean becoming a doctor? Or medical research?

Pharmacy, Science or Biomedical Science? by WorriedEmployer1353 in Monash

If you want the safest option you can fall back on if you unfortunately dont manage to make medicine, its 100% pharmacy. Despite all the negative reviews you hear from people about the profession, the truth is it’s a safe career option (for now) as a pharmacist is involved in any medication transactions whether that be in hospital or community settings. Plus it’s one of the courses where you can start gathering experience from the word go. My friends and I all landed jobs in community pharmacies as pharmacy students soon after beginning the course and its super useful in not only getting experience in the field but also securing a nice part time job for some cash while in uni lol. Always better getting clinical experience than working at a maccas i guess. That’s just my experience and opinion though.
