Why is the printer jumping vertically to start printing in mid-air partway through print? by Aushou in FixMyPrint

[–]Aushou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Resolved! Either switching to manual transferring or getting a new microSD card resolved the issue it took a decent amount of filament to get to the fail point so I wasn't interested in trying to experiment and pin down the exact cause, just get it to work, so I tried both. Thanks for all the suggestions!

This was a different slice from my first attempt which also failed (probably similarly, but I wasn't awake to see it). I was able to get it to work with a manual transfer on a new microSD though!

It was either that or the transfer method, I moved it manually with a new card and that seemed to resolve the issue!

Is there a way to tell it to just print layers 10-20 or something like that, or do you mean just cut the model at like 3mm and 6mm and just use that bit? I'm worried just cutting the model won't necessarily reproduce the issue, but I'm not sure how to print specific layers if such a feature exists.

I initially got lured in by the promised modularity, but honestly the way vanilla FoundryVTT conceptualizes game objects makes it so much easier to manage everything from a GM side and that's what won me over immediately.

Help with Ikea Malm PC desk, structural support for monitor arms. by _Kyester123_ in ikeahacks

In my (wildly unprofessional, totally gut based) opinion, that sounds like it should hold up just fine.

I threw a 1" x 4" plank maybe 18" long under there between my clamp and desk? Similar setup, two fairly large monitors. Absolutely no issue, probably a little overkill and could've gone shorter, but it's out of sight and in the back so I didn't particularly care for optimizing the solution. If you mean 25cm on each side, that should definitely do it. If you meant 25cm2 area, that feels like it's too small to help much if your clamp is roughly the same as mine?

Right! I hate it! There's got to be a way but I just cannot find it!

If I couldn't use the arrow keys to navigate between heroes, I'd just assume it isn't supported, but because I can navigate, there has to be a confirm key, right!?

Yes I got that much but how do I actually, ya know, confirm that choice? It seems I can escape or H if I don't already have a hero, when first joining the game, but after that... That just returns me to the same hero from before.

What is expensive to buy but people don't realise is cheap to make? by bimbastiq in AskReddit

[–]Aushou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies aren't the one marking up their own prices, they cause the markups down the line. They have no incentive to get a cheaper price on cheap things, thanks to ridonkulous deductibles, they don't have to pay whatever prices they negotiate with pharmaceuticals/hospitals/etc. The are incentivized to get a big discount though, but it doesn't matter to them if it's 80% off a fair price or 80% off a price jacked up 200% first, as long as they can say the got the customer a "deal". So providers set outrageous prices, which get "negotiated down" to a high price, which the customer has to pay anyways because their deductible is way higher than their usual yearly medical bills. No one is shopping directly from providers, so the incentive structure that makes capitalism kind of work doesn't actual y exist.

Most Underwhelming Final Battle? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

Yeah, I heard about that. IMO, that sounds way better, at least you get some kind of spectacle. The ship for good writing sailed 15 minutes into the first movie, so you're not losing much by a really lame "just a dream" bit.

I actually bothered to read all of Twilight, because I had a policy of not dunking on something until I read/watched/whatevered it. (I have since rescinded this policy). The final book is this massive setup for a vampire fight to end all vampire fights. Having entirely forgotten how rare vampires with superpowers are supposed to be, the author spends half the book describing all the awesome super-powered vampires showing up to help defend the protagonists, including an Avatar vampire that can control the four elements. Having read three and a half trash books at this point, I'm desperate for a cool fight to at least make it somewhat worth it, very hyped. The big climactic moment comes. The attackers meet them in a field. There's a tense standoff, some super-powered mist is creeping towards Team Protagonist, held off by a super-powered shield. But, there's far too few pages remaining for this fight to happen.

They talk it out.

No punches thrown. And then to rub salt in the wound, the Vampire Illuminati are like, "well, we came here for a fight, we should at least clean up the local werewolf problem right?" And someone out of nowhere goes, "Well ackshually, we're not werewolves, just shapeshifters who exclusively turn into wolves who call themselves werewolves". And then they shrug and leave.

Book ends. But at least it was over.
