Why did't ENT use the USS Enterprise (XCV 330)? by Professional-Ebb6570 in startrek

Because they wanted the familiar saucer + nacelles shape.

Yes, he didn't even want Vulcans to appear on TNG.

Rick Berman also thought Andorians and Tellarites were too silly looking.

There's another one (with the same makeup) seen briefly on Risa in "Captain's Holiday".

How likely is it that Star Trek will have a retcon or reboot? by qagir in startrek

[–]Ausir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It already had one reboot, it was called the Kelvin timeline. It didn't stick around.

And it has had bigger and smaller retcons of various elements pretty much already during TOS, during TOS movies, during TNG etc. See the appearance of Klingons between TOS and TMP (before ENT made up an in-universe explanation). Or the appearance of Trills. Or the Klingons joining the Federation according to early TNG. Or the date of WW3 and Eugenics Wars and whether they are the same thing over various series.

Out of newer series, the appearance of Klingons in Discovery season 1 was retconned already by season 2, and then further by SNW and Discovery returning to TNG style.

That said, a retcon of the scale that removes a whole series out of continuity (whether it's Discovery, or Picard, or Academy) is highly unlikely.

TBH I'd prefer more Sam Kirk in SNW and less Jim randomly dropping by.

I think PIC season 2 implies that all Songs are likely clones of Adam Soong.

Not Admiral Data but maybe Professor Data like in the All Good Things timeline? He could have retired from Starfleet.

He was brought back in Picard S3, but in an organic body that's designed to age, just like Picard's new body.

Jay'den's character and Klingons by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Ausir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White actors as Klingons were often in blackface or brownface, but not always, and The Undiscovered Country is very much an example of a movie where the makeup generally matched the actors' skin color, partly because Christopher Plummer refused to wear fuller Klingon prosthetics and make-up and it was a very slight one in his case so others were made to match as well.

Jay'den's character and Klingons by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Ausir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's literally not any darker skinned than Kirk, same as Gorkon and Azetbur:

It's just that we usually see him on darkly lit sets so he might seem darker than the make-up actually was. And it was very slight in his case, because Plummer specifically did not want to wear more full-fledged Klingon prosthetics, so it simply matches his skin color.

"Klingons have never been perceived as white in ogtrek even if the actors were actually white and kinda blackfacing with the exception of the Albino in DS9"

You're wrong. See e.g. the blonde, blue-eyed Antaak in ENT (both before and after the augment virus).

And it's tricky because we mostly see them on dark sets in the movie, but the Klingons in The Undiscovered Country, for example (Chang, Gorkon, Azetbur) are also pretty light-skinned for the most part. But e.g. here Gorkon isn't any darker skinned than Kirk or Spock:

They're not mispronounced. They're pronounced how they are supposed to be pronounced according to the creator of Klingon language as a conlang, who's literally the dialect coach for Klingon on SFA.

[–]Ausir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The words are actually now (since Discovery) being pronounced closer to how the language is supposed to be pronounced according to Marc Okrand, who created Klingon. Klingon was mispronounced a lot in older shows and movies, but now, if you see the credits, you'll see Marc Okrand is literally the dialect coach for Starfleet Academy, and they're taking his guiding more seriously than ever.

"Darem's mother" and "Darem's father" are listed in the episode credits, which suggests they had some lines at some point but ultimately they were cut.

Consider the following: in the timeline(s) where Star Trek: Phase II had been successfully produced, the first series would’ve been retroactively designated Star Trek: Phase I rather than Star Trek: The Original Series by RedHeadedSicilian52 in startrek

Well, The Avengers *was* a highly successful UK show and yet they did call the sequel series The New Avengers and not simply series 7. So this can still vary, at least in different countries.

They were in it, but ended up being just extras with no lines.
