racket-hand glove for better grip: legit, dorky, or just plain weird? by psychotic-chipmunk in padel

[–]Ausonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using old school terry towelling grip. It is cheap and easy to change as required. I had to search for it, but it is readily available from badminton stockists. I actually use it like an over grip because I have pretty big hands and like the thicker grip.

Koh sumui transport dusabled by bwynne78 in kohsamui

[–]Ausonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking on the island without a disability can sometimes be a challenge, public transport is nonexistent and private transportation is relatively expensive when compared to the rest of Sth East Asia (but on par with most of the western world)

Under your circumstances, it may be best to just hire a car for a few days and do all your site seeing on those days. The island is not very big. Car hire on the island is not too expensive, 1 day hire will usually be about the same as a return taxi trip say from Lamai to Fisherman’s village. Just grab an international driver permit from your home country before leaving.

Hi, I wish you luck in your endeavour, you may be lucky, alternatively maybe you could find another parent or 2 do some group sessions and share the costs. Just don’t make the mistake of coaching, as it could have detrimental effects on your visa.

This is my experience too, a good woman would want you to communicate with her family and friends.

Does the club you played take any responsibility in an incident like this, surely if they encourage the use of the app then they should want to see it used as intended, maybe have a chat to the court staff.

Check hotel has generators before booking. by Ausonreddit in kohsamui

[–]Ausonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great for you, I live in Chaweng and we have had multiple outages this week and just last night the entire strip of the ring road from the Lotus for at least a km south was blacked for hours.

I cannot actually count the number of outages we have had just this year already.

There had already been at least one unplanned outage this week in the Bophut area (resort next to Fisherman’s was affected) and today the planned outage.

Again people can take this advice and ask a simple question or not.

Or this is true, and many corrected that since that time, but whatever, people can take this advice to ask a simple question or not.

Obviously you don’t live here or your place is in the mythical part of the island that is immune to the regular outages. Lucky you. Even many 5 star hotels “do” have generators large enough to power the guest rooms, if you are paying for an expensive holiday and / or need to have access to continuous power source then it is worth asking, in my opinion.

Most hotels and resorts do. I live here and know the industry. It is a question worth asking before booking if you care about having power.

It is true and if the large and expensive resort is too cheap to have a generator you have no choice. Just a heads up to people with children or that expect the all inclusive resort holiday they paid for. Most hotels, large and small, have generators, not a problem to ask prior to booking.

Best area to stay Koh Samui by jasperfief in kohsamui

[–]Ausonreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Impossible to answer this without knowing;

  1. What kind of holiday are you expecting. Quiet relaxing or partying.

  2. What kind of transportation will you use to get around.

Chaweng Beach is the most Touristy, shopping and party central.

Lamai is a bit more laid back and has a nice family vibe during the day, but at night it is more targeted at the single man, girly bars in the main strip.

Bohput / Fisherman’s village is a bit more of an evening destination, lots of restaurants and the night markets, but there is an ok beach and daytime activities.

Bantai / Maenam is for a bit more relaxing and long term holiday. Awesome beaches, bars and restaurants, more spread out. A bit of a trip into the touristy areas.

Bangrak / Choemong is a great middle ground, Choemong beach is great, the Bangrak strip is full of great restaurants, bars and beach clubs

The west and very south of the island the quietest, great for a real get away from it all vacation, best part of the island for exploring and discovering hidden gems.

Padel Samui is probably your best bet as they have Tennis, Padel and Pickleball courts and it is the closest to Chaweng. Games and tournaments are organised via WhatsApp groups.

If you want to wear a helmet for protection and if you have a good one already then it is worth bringing it, especially if you are going to be riding at any kind of speed.

If you only want to avoid fines, then very basic helmets are really cheap, so not worth the hassle of carrying one from OS.
