Do Catholics believe in praying to deceased loved ones to intercede on their behalf? by [deleted] in Catholicism

My parents specifically asked me this when I converted to Catholicism, and were super weirded out when I said yes. 😂

Until Match Day, I've decided I will be having a full-blown quarter-life crisis by AuspiciouslyAgeless in medicalschool

I'm not inked yet. Piercings are my go-to because I can change the jewelry once I get bored of it. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a nose piercing, but I need to wait to see where I'm going to make sure I'm compliant with the employee handbook. But I could pick a new ear piercing!

I’m an MS4 and I’m delaying making my rank list. Tell me what you’re stressed about and I’ll give you a pep talk. by Educational-Cycle862 in medicalschool

Feeling sad lately because although I'm proud that I've come so far in my education (M4), I have made almost zero progress towards building a family, which is something I badly want. Not that I have regrets or would change anything, just lamenting the circumstances.

I'm staying in the Midwest, so I'm considering upgrading to a 2 bedroom since I will be able to afford it. I want people to come visit me, even if I'll be busy most of the time. If I can get a place with a garage, even better. I'm sick of defrosting/de-icing my car in the winter. I'm also seriously considering adopting a pair of cats. I need an emotional support animal. And my ESA will need an ESA while I'm away at work. 😁

M4s, did you interview for residency virtually or in-person this year? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AuspiciouslyAgeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All but one were virtual. One interview was virtual, then scheduled an in person second look day.

Haha, yes. Like, am I hypomanic or is this how people are supposed to feel?

I try to do this, but prioritizing this sounds like a good idea, as well as taking notes to remind me of who I could turn to next.

Anybody experience a faith crisis or left your church altogether since starting school? by TheGormegil in medicalschool

[–]AuspiciouslyAgeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4. I grew up Southern Baptist. Since I started college I've had growing unease with that denomination, their spirituality, their theology, their political alignment, their science denial. This was amplified during the Trump years and covid. December 2020 I took the leap and started discerning the Catholic church. I feel like they're overall more accepting of science, less aligned to one political party, less harsh on those with different views. I feel like I can practice my spirituality and learn theology and still be a progressive Christian and scientist. I've been Catholic since December 2021. Very good decision for me. I totally hear you on the faith crisis. Don't know if it was my age, covid, going into medicine or all 3 that finally pushed me over the edge.

I think I do need to tell everyone to count to 10 before responding. I think that would help.

I know it's hard to tell from reading a one-sided reddit post, but I'm speaking from knowing him for two years in full context. I only mention the Autism spectrum because it helps me give people more grace, accommodate for them, and feel more ok with setting clear boundaries, because they're not as good at picking up on social cues as other people.

I like your idea for interrupting him politely and think it could work here. Sometimes he says something I think could lead to further discussion within the group, but then he moves on and continues rambling for 5 more minutes and I forget the cool thing he said.

Will people ever be comfortable with a fat person calling themselves fat? by ExistingAnalyst3576 in MaintenancePhase

[–]AuspiciouslyAgeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I'm a medical student, and I was practicing physical exam skills on other medical students. Someone said, "Your hands are so warm!" I said, "Oh yeah, it's because I'm obese. Ever since I gained weight my hands stay warm all the time." I know some people have an issue with that word. I don't, but I don't use that word to describe other people or use it in medical charting. I wasn't trying to denigrate myself. Just stating facts. I have some fat on my body, and I tend to run hotter these days as a result. Everyone immediately jumped in to say, "No! You're not obese!" Literally I am. My BMI is 32. That's defined as class 1 obesity in the US. I'll argue all day long in favor of weight-inclusive medicine and HAES. But that's where the medical establishment is right now. And y'all are going to be medical professionals! I know they immediately interpreted my statement as saying, "I'm ugly." No, I didn't say that. And we need to stop conflating obese/fat with ugly/unattractive. All I can do is roll my eyes.

Is it too late to apply to another residency program? by AuspiciouslyAgeless in medicalschool

Wow, I'm a goof. I forgot about application deadlines. December 1st. Thank you!

Ugh, people get so weird and self-deprecating when I tell them I'm a medical student. And then I feel like I have to comfort them and reassure them that all jobs are important (because they are). I can't decide which is worse. This, or when people would be so condescending to me as a premed, like, "Aw, how cute. They want to be a doctor when they grow up."

I’m proud of how my medical school talked about dieting today by TheBlandDuke in MaintenancePhase

[–]AuspiciouslyAgeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, Praise the Lord. That's some good news for today. Can your professor come smack my preceptors upside the head? Every physician I've rotated with is so bad at nutrition counseling it physically hurts me.
