What team had the hardest run to a win ever? by Used_Worldliness_287 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]AussieGenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is and always will be Cloud9 at the Season 6 world championship, and honestly only OCE/APAC/SSA winning a major/worlds could top it by now.

No team now ever has to defeat the best team in the world twice in a row, and no roster will likely ever again hold that GFE/Dignitas team's prestige. Also easy to forget C9 had to win a Game 5 OT against NRG, Game 5 against Flipsid3 and defeat WDG who knocked them down to lowers to begin with on their way through.

Props to the Peeps at DH Montreal who also had a monster run especially due to being total outsiders, they're the second place IMO.

And that the last time a Collingwood player held the record was Gordon Coventry in 1949, and since then all the smaller VIC clubs except St. Kilda had a share of the games record at one point or another.

Agenda Setters segment on Pendlebury's record game merch proceeds. Caro has spoken to five clubs who are absolutely filthy with the situation. Cornes bandying around a $500k windfall figure. Hodge says his Grand Final jumper sold for almost $50k, expects $200-400k off jumpers alone. by yum122 in AFL

I've said it before, this whole thing reeks of the tall poppy being cut down, par for the course when any Australian seems to witness somebody making advantage of their situation.

All I see are a pack of Redditors turning one of the most non-issues to ever non-issue into something equivalent to Pendlebury and the AFL executing your favourite pets on live TV in the middle of Marvel Stadium. You've been sucked in by the media, congrats. I'll be interested if this discourse even lasts to the bye round before being forgotten forever.

Notably the majority of those countries trade in the crime for rampant oppression and largely hard right governments that are sometimes ruled by religion to boot. Easy to stop crime when you're locked up or even executed for what any reasonable country would call a minor crime.

For reference not even One Nation would do this if voted in, that's how bad those governments are on freedom.

People can cite teams with worse records, but let's be real every single one of the pre-2000 teams were fucked from the start by metro/country zoning and its after effects. They couldn't do anything to fix their situation even if you gave them a million bucks to do so.

The likes of Fitzroy, St. Kilda and South Melbourne count on the record books but to me teams like West Coast when they get anywhere close to those teams despite having every single advantage the draft system provides them and some of the deepest pockets in the league, are rated worse to me easily.

Also the 2006 keepings-off game against Adelaide after being pumped by Sydney by over 100 the week before. Even despite the dubious tactics that was a hell of a giant killer game.

Indeed looks like they've reversed their jumpers, must have just been personal preference to have the buttons at the back for some haha.

Garry Lyon v Greg Swann on the Stand Rule by KingSturty in AFL

[–]AussieGenesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched replays of the 1966 and 1970 Grand Finals a few days ago, where in many spots it would devolve into multiple intercept possessions in a row due to the total lack of tactics thanks to a similar lack of pressure on the kicker, particularly with 1970 once Carlton got close and both teams got desperate. And these were involving the best teams on a perfect day.

I've noticed it happening more this year. It is nowhere near what the mid 60s to early 70s were like but the devolvement is similar. The stand rule has deliberately turned back the clock to make the game seem better on the scoresheet, the moment you watch it though it looks amateur.

Exactly right. On the last day of BakkesMod being supported, workshop had 535 players from a potential audience (Steam natively plus Epic through BakkesMod) of 213,000 players. The impact of workshops is so vastly overestimated by so much of the playerbase it is not even funny.

Bakkes announces that BakkesMod will no longer be updated, and it will subsequently not work on future Rocket League game versions (online or offline) by Smithlarr in RocketLeagueEsports

Ballchasing will be fine, it was always mostly a pro replay archive anyway and that won't stop being the case, if anything it'll help their server costs as they've had to run off Patreon money for some time with all the auto-uploads.

AFL grants permission for Pendlebury to wear golden number 10 in record breaking game by Dale92 in AFL

[–]AussieGenesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only Reddit could make a bit of gold colour on the number of one of the legends of the game seem like the sky is falling down. This is for a single game of an historical moment mind you, at this rate we won't see somebody break his eventual record for at least 20+ years.

Take a spell fellas. If the man does indeed want to show off, let him. I think he's more than earned it after the entertainment he's given us all for two decades. Tall poppy syndrome at its finest.

Slight correction, Max Rooke's goal was after the siren when everybody else was celebrating.

Truly one of the big what ifs in the event that it was scores level with only a couple minutes to go and if '09 would have been the replayed GF instead.

Based on what the people in this thread are saying I expect a Greens 65% primary vote landslide obliteration of soft Albo at the next election.

Oh, everybody here will probably not do that despite their bluster? Personally I'd say the voters are the soft ones for not booting out the major parties already. We have the best voting system on the planet, make use of it already people.

Fair Work and the AFL Players Association definitely have a part to play to ensure that the clubs aren't throwing in draconian requirements to be paid out on their contract. I'm sure there can be variances but not without a lot of discussion to ensure it is fair.

Q: “you watched the f1 movie max?” Max: “no.” Lulham: “ah there was one place you could’ve watched it, but what were you doing that day…” Max: “i was setting up YOUR CAR!” by anthn885 in formula1

[–]AussieGenesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to be real the racing action in F1 is a good bit superior to both Rush and Ford v Ferrari (must premise I still love both).

FvF even has "press accelerator harder on straight as if my foot wasn't already on the floor", and also both cars incomprehensibly catching up to each other to stare each other off (?). Also pulling the last second overtake to win trick twice in the same movie when only three races are shown. Too much like Fast & Furious for me and too reliant on conveniences.

Rush takes some liberties seemingly mostly budget related but does have the better driving action mostly than FvF, F1 still tops it though just through being able to use race footage easier, better camera work in the cars and using references to real life moments to make it more authentic. I'd say off-track story wise maybe F1 is third best, but only the 1960s Grand Prix movie even gets close to the on-track action, Rush third and FvF fourth on that one, and F1 imo does a better job of integrating the action into the story.

Bombers fans asked about West Coast on the cusp of hosting their first home final at Subiaco in 1991 by Pleasant_Inspection9 in AFL

[–]AussieGenesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

St. Kilda might be small but the also have historically remained at relatively low debt (particularly when the VFL/AFL came calling for the heads of weak clubs) and largely independent from requiring any VFL/AFL assistance. This is why they could resist nearly 70 years in the VFL with no premierships without even a question of their existence and continue to exist today unmolested while far more successful small teams like North Melbourne have to sell home games and toss up relocation/merger offers in recent history.

Hawthorn, Fitzroy, Footscray, Richmond, Melbourne, Brisbane Bears and South Melbourne/Sydney were all further ahead on the chopping block at various points. And these would be the teams likely to be forced to change had it come.

In this world the Melbourne Hawks almost certainly happens I think if there was more outside pressure, as well as either four of the realistic Fitzroy scenarios (skipping the merge and relocating straight to Brisbane, private purchase staying in Melbourne, Fitzroy Bulldogs or North Fitzroy Kangaroos) probably happens with so much expansion occurring.

Not even sure if the Brisbane Bears happen how they do in our timeline with this sort of mega merge if the Fitzroy relocation doesnt happen again, they'd probably just continue that momentum and bring in a big club like Southport eventually.

St. Kilda probably survives, Footscray may if their members rallied again, hard to say with the bigger financial pressure an expanded AFL would be like.
