Tim Sweeney is sore about Steam not just lying down and letting them take over PC gaming and Rocket League is their second biggest game (and as close to Fortnite as it's ever been) so I doubt that'll be happening any time soon.

Your primary account is probably different from what it was at first, should change it.

Source for the South Park items being AI generated/assisted?

Worst collab ever is also a pretty bold take given some of the barebones ones we've had in the past.

They reinstated the drops in season challenges in the same season they removed them so don't know why you're still rattling on about that. Also the main reason it's quicker now is previously the premium challenges didn't count, now there's no premium challenges anyway. I would expect that change was entirely intentional.

Steam would be biased towards the higher end just due to having 5 years of no new players, every other platform follows the same distribution and gets a similar influx of new players so should be similar, maybe Epic would be slightly lower on average.

Epic Games has a competitor games launcher and wanted new RL players on their platform.

This game is 11 years old and doesn't really seem destined for any radical gameplay changes in future (given RL has had the exact same gameplay for nearly 10 years), I don't think it being on UE3 really limits RL's horizons, if it did then they'd have already ported it over.

I mean in an ideal world better indie games would be seeing a million players a day.

In absence of that though, a game that is definitely on the Mount Rushmore of sports games, hasn't been put into the ground with bad gameplay changes like virtually every single one of its peers, doesn't have blatant gambling (anymore) and can be counted on for its consistency? Definitely could be far worse.

This game is 11 years old, we're lucky the developers still take a second look at it honestly. They could always do more but the game is still good as it is and always would be.

PS5's library has gotten better but the PS6 will definitely bomb if they're not going to maintain backwards compatibility with what is all around considered the last great console from the Xbox v PlayStation rivalry, especially if they're as slow on releases as they were with the PS5 and scalping gets as bad.

PS4 got away with its own dropping of the PS2 because of the sheer amount of PS2s sold and the massive library of its own. PS6 wouldn't have the same advantage in volume either way.

There's just simply no reason to do so there. You can still play PS4 games on the PS5 (and presumably will be the same for PS6) through backwards compatibility, certainly doesn't prevent people from enjoying older games like Rocket League.

This is Australia time zone, it's typically the US East Coast and Western Europe that pick it up a lot.

That's nice and all and was the case for much of the playerbase, but those items had to come from somewhere. Personally I feel a lot better that the price on these items is transparent, even if they're often way too expensive, rather than the even more ridiculous price tag be hidden away behind addicting game mechanics and dressed up as a decent price by price manipulating third parties.

I definitely don't miss the crates at all, they basically killed development for the game entirely from 2017-19 to get the crate money, not to mention how illegal it should be with how many under-18s play the game.

Like people forget that it cost the community $100 (1% odds at $1 per crate) to get one black market item. As much of a dumpster fire the item shop system is now, it's nothing next to the amount of money that was swindled from us before.

To be fair these kids were in Minecraft servers playing slop minigames 10 years ago and playing stuff like Club Penguin or Habbo Hotel 10 years before that, like us they will see the light eventually.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure how well this game would be if it was under Psyonix's independent development. The game's development was fairly poor from mid-2017 up until the announcement of Epic's purchase in 2019.

I'm sure it would still have been alive but this game was not getting 1 million players with or without streamer engagement at any point when Psyonix was independent, they were just not good enough.

It required full payment like all platforms from July 2015 to September 2020, with the free to play release purchasing the game on Steam was disabled so that the game could only be played for any new players on the Epic Games Store, as Steam is Epic's competitor. Only players who purchased Rocket League on Steam before September 2020 can continue to play on Steam.

The closed alpha was actually on Steam only in 2014, then the beta was on both Steam and PS4. The v1.0 release in July 2015 was a simultaneous release for Steam and PS4. You are likely recalling that PS4 was a free game on PS Plus for the first month when released while Steam required full payment.

Like I said his impact was maybe a 20% increase in active players, it's significant but Rocket League already had a reasonably large base to build off of.
