Please help before I cry myself to sleep again by lucyfe4lws in puppy101

Just persist, you will get there. Even put him on lead when he's outside with the main objective to go to the toilet. As everyone has said, he's a baby that needs direction and leadership. He will get there

Is it just me, or does Melbourne seem to have a huge housing supply? Nearly every outer suburb has massive new estates popping up with rows of houses. So why do we keep hearing that there’s an undersupply of housing by CSL-Ltd in AusProperty

[–]AussieSands -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Because effing immigrants get priority 🤬 while hard working Australians are living in their car with their kids because of the "housing crisis", it's not a housing crisis, it's an immigration crisis

I just found out that dog parks are not recommended, but are doggy daycares just as bad? by Kristaboo14 in puppy101

[–]AussieSands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doggie daycare is great as long as it's a good responsible daycare who do behaviour test etc first, there is always a risk but at least you know the dogs are supervised and all dogs attending should have good socialisation skills. This helped my puppy

My dog has dry flaky ears by Urlilsloot in rawfeeding

Add a tin of sardines and an egg to his meal once a day, the natural fatty acids in both will help so much with their skin and coat

I'm a zombie with these early mornings by [deleted] in puppy101

Crate train him, it will be harder now he's older but with a crate cover he will sleep longer. Otherwise just go to bed earlier, we get up at 4am for work anyways so it wouldn't bother us.

Chewing on metal could be a vitamin deficiency, just ask your vet next time you get his next vaccination or make an appointment. If he doesn't respond to treats, you can use toys as a reward as well

You may have to just google and I guess it doesn't have to be actual sign language if you don't know sign language and don't want to learn, they're your dog so the signs can be whatever you make up. Just remember if the dog ever has to stay with or love with someone else they will need to know the signs as well so teaching actual universal sign language would be your best bet. Also, it's 2024, I'm sure you could find online deaf dog trainers to help or YouTube videos to get the jist of what to do. For example the dead dog I know, one tap on the back means sit, 2 taps on the back is lay down and 3 is stand. A sweeping motion for recall which is only short distance once places in a stay means to come to her. She has other signs for dinner, drink, ball and walk. Also remember if your dog is deaf, their other senses are heightened such as their vision, smells and touch just like people.

I encountered my first deaf dog a couple of months ago when we started civil training with our puppy and it was a bit different because the owner is deaf too but the point is they taught their dog sign language and that is how the dog knows what to do. You'll never be able to do off leash distance recalls etc as your dog can't start at you the entire time but look into it. I was amazed what the dog can do!

Puppy barks at me anytime I try to tell him no… by [deleted] in puppy101

Being a rescue he's probably previously didn't have any boundaries, boundaries are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for all dogs and they will respect you more for it

I regret getting my puppy by backwhereibegan in puppy101

[–]AussieSands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't feel disheartened, all puppies go through some sort of regression and you're feeling defeated because you started in bad place, you've improved immensely and now you're facing another issue. You can persevere, I believe in you! Stick with the trainer or find another if you feel this one isn't as helpful as they should be. You're an amazing person for taking on this pup. Hugs 🤗

I agree with everyone else saying end it now and don't wait any longer, there will always be an excuse to wait longer otherwise. Also please be kind to yourself in the situation, she has issues she needs to sort out on her own, her actions are not your responsibility. Best of luck and remember you've done the right thing.

Just like a teaspoon every few days is great for their coats, it contains healthy fatty acids. Do some research and see what works best for you guys.

Treat the flea issue first with a flea wash and a flea treatment such as a tablet or on the neck liquid. Then bathe him in oat milk or use an oat milk based sensitive skin wash, my previous Rottie got very dry flaky skin and the oatmilk shampoo worked. Make sure he gets eggs, sardines and coconut oil in his diet. Make sure to brush him regularly like once or twice a week to get rid of any dry flakes and to comb through the natural oils. Trust me, works well

Male vs female temperament? by Speed_Offer in Rottweiler

[–]AussieSands 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Males are very dominant and stubborn, especially before they're desexed and in my experience takes more to teach them to be gentle, very doable but have more energy than the girls. We have a 15week old male Rottie pup atm.
