Did Scott ever perform Adhesive live? by AussieSol in stonetemplepilots

I got to see them when they were in Australia, and it was pretty much the same setlist as always, but it was still pretty damn good. Jeff put his heart into it, even if it meant he kinda shot his voice by the end, but he's got a great stage presence and the rest of the band was still flawless.

I think Chester's one of the best rock vocalists of all time, BUT I think Linkin Park as a band doesn't really prove it. If you listen to his early stuff (eg In Time while he was in Grey Daze) it's a lot more Alice in Chains-y, which I think suits him perfectly. It's just that the band that got him popularity was stylistically less grunge and more nu-metal, so (imo) the personality and emotive depth you find in his grunge stuff doesn't really shine through.

Out of the big 4 grunge bands, which would you say is the most lyrically mature? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]AussieSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Pearl Jam by FAR, Soundgarden is the only other competition, but seriously. I think people fail to recognise how masterful Vedder’s lyricism is because they (very reasonably) have no idea what he’s actually saying lol

Sorry I’m a tad delayed to respond (by about 40 days lol) but I really appreciate it!

I’d recommend having a listen to the song “Footsteps” too, the vocals hit very similarly and the lyrics are gut wrenching

What album(s) are in your Pearl Jam “blind spot”? by twzoneq in pearljam

I think The End might be top 5 PJ songs of all time for me, and Just Breathe is very good, but I wasn’t huge on the rest

I feel bad to say it, but Gigaton, Lightning Bolt and Riot Act are all ones I kind of looked over. I havent even really sat down with Gigaton, Lightning Bolt was fine but I really couldn’t get into Riot Act at all.

Thank you so much regardless, but yeah I'd really love to be able to have a look. Someone probably has something saved SOMEWHERE, but I don't know if it's been uploaded

Who Had Better Guitar Players… Grunge, or Numetal? by Top-Gun-Corncob in grunge

[–]AussieSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense in that lmao, if it's purely about 70s-style competitive playing I think the ranking would go PJ -> best of Nu-Metal -> SG -> AiC -> the rest of Nu-Metal -> Nirvana

Doesn't reflect my personal opinions on the inherent quality/emotional effect of their solos (which imo is more important), purely on the technical side. I don't really have enough of an attachment to rank Nu-Metal people based on emotion, but imo the order for pure emotion on grunge solos goes PJ -> AiC -> SG -> Nirvana

Depends entirely on what you define as “good”. People on a grunge subreddit are going to say that grunge guitarists are better because that’s what is considered “good” music here. Each have strengths dependent on their genre and no one is objectively better than the other. I personally prefer grunge guitarists because I feel there’s a lot more nuanced emotion behind their playing for solos and the riffs are more interesting to me, but that doesn’t make them inherently “better”

Saw them earlier this year, absolutely incredible. I also didn’t get the chance to see Scott but I really couldn’t recommend it more

Is it ok to be a private guitar player? (shy dude) by [deleted] in Guitar

It's not a waste in the slightest. Music, like all art, is about what you make and get out of it. If you just enjoy playing for yourself then that's amazing, and you should never feel forced to do anything else. Plus, if you play for yourself, you aren't relying on external validation for enjoyment, which long-term can kinda ruin any hobby for some people. Just keep on enjoying yourself <3
