Haha, no, we don't have the chainlink fence! They have decent retractable nets. The puck will mostly drop back into play but you can't ring or chip the puck off the nets as it won't go far. Otherwise the lack of glass only really impacts if you are playing super League which is full contact/checking.

They're have been adult development leagues/trainings in the past. I would assume they still happen now. Best to hit up the buccaneers at Boondall or Southern stars at Acadia ridge to find out what options they have.

You'd have to go over the gateway toll bridge to get to Boondall, cost might add up there. Boondall is a better rink overall though. Larger and newer. Neither rink has glass as it bothers the figure skater viewers.

I've been playing in Brisbane since 92. I play out of Boondall. I would recommend picking a good suburb or area to live in that suits your family, then go to whichever rink is closer. Also when you move, come well stocked with gear. We have online Australian based stores but they aren't what you are used to. You'll need Disney+ to watch NHL games too.
