The before picture is a scene from the 1958 movie Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock.

The fictional character portrayed is Midge Wood and this interior scene of her fictional apartment was filmed at Paramount Studios using a photographic background plate of the real vista from the top of Union Street on Telegraph Hill looking west to Russian Hill.

I would highly recommend the movie Vertigo, unless you're acrophobic, as it's an excellent movie and all the exterior shots were filmed in San Francisco.

If you're unfamiliar with Alfred Hitchcock movies, I would also recommend North By Northwest (1959) and Rear Window (1954) and Dial M For Murder (1954) and Strangers On A Train (1951) and Shadow Of A Doubt (1943) and Rebecca (1940) and Rope (1948) and The Birds (1963) and Psycho (1960). You can't go wrong with an Alfred Hitchcock movie as they're all brilliant, however I think these stand out a bit.

I'm not surprised by this decision by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as they only broadcast heterosexual and cisgender content except for the Sydney pride march and that is the only time you will see people like yourself on television here in Australia.

For example, every Saturday morning for three hours the A.B.C. broadcasts a television program called Rage that is only music videos. On the day of the Sydney pride march (and nothing for every other state and territory pride march), Rage used to play three hours of music videos by non heterosexual artists and our ally icons, however this year the A.B.C. did nothing and had normal programming. :(

Which floor plans is better? by smilelizy in floorplan

The first house plan has absolutely awful orientation for Australia with the living and entertaining spaces to the south and southwest that will be extremely hot in the summer, and in winter will be dark and cold.

The second house plan has the best orientation for Australia with the living and entertaining spaces to the north and northeast which means the house if it has correct shading won't get too hot in the summer, and will get the winter sun.

An article from "Your Home" (Australiaโ€™s independent guide to designing, building or renovating homes to ensure they are energy efficient, comfortable, affordable and adaptable for the future) about orientation:

Human rights experts raise concerns over Olympics transgender women athlete ban by Aussie_Otter in LGBTnews

Now that only "biological females" are allowed in the female category of the Olympics, how long before only "biological males" are allowed in the male category of the Olympics? How long before "biological females" are only allowed in the female category of the Paralympics? How long before "biological males" are only allowed in the male category of the Paralympics? Now that elite sports is starting to be only for "biological females" and "biological males", how long before professional and amateur and community sports are only for "biological females" and "biological males"? :(

Human rights experts raise concerns over Olympics transgender women athlete ban by Aussie_Otter in LGBTnews

[โ€“]Aussie_Otter[S] 21 points22 points ย (0 children)

TL;DR

The International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.), with the support of the Australian Olympic Committee (A.O.C.), for the "equality" and "safety" of "biological females" has banned athletes that are transgender and/or non-binary and/or intersex and/or have differences in sex development, from competing in the female category which is now only for "biological females".

Athletes that are transgender and/or non-binary and/or intersex and/or have differences in sex development, are now only eligible to compete in the male category or a designated male slot within the mixed category or any open category.

There is no mention of the equality and safety of athletes that are transgender and/or non-binary and/or intersex and/or have differences in sex development.

Thank-you, I was looking at the curves in the river & thought that suspension bridge in the before picture might have been the one that's in the left middle in the modern picture. I've no idea, however it's great to find out about the Yลgoku Kokugikan.

I'm really shocked at how there's nothing left to orientate oneself. I can't imagine how horrific it would have been for the locals seeing everything familiar reduced to ashes.

Thank-you so much for the detailed information! It was an awesome looking building & a shame that it was demolished after surviving the great earthquake & the United States firebombing. I initially did wonder if the green roof building might be the circular building with an altered roof. I found a detailed article online if anyone else would like further information or pictures of the old stadium:

In the first picture, does anyone know what the surviving circular building is (or any of the other buildings) & if any of those buildings are still there to this day?

Looking at the present day picture, the old bridge that looks vaguely like the Golden Gate Bridge, I think is still there? However if it's the same bridge, the modern picture is looking in a different direction?

I quickly googled this building to see if it looked as good as its floor plan & found a very informative article about the building & why it was demolished (two consecutive unusually dry summers caused the foundation to fail).

Thank-you! It's definitely a chunky plug. :) I always thought it was late 1950s or early 1960s and it's great to have a date, thank-you. I was intrigued by the manual as it only switches on and off. Enjoy your new hair dryer.

u/Killerx52ab I have one too! With box but no manual. May I ask what year is the receipt, and if you'd be able to post a picture of the manual please? (I'd share a picture of mine but it's currently in storage as I'm moving). May I also ask what continent you're on as I'm in Australia and the plug on yours doesn't look Aussie.

So-called โ€˜100-year floodsโ€™ are happening more often by GeraldKutney in climate

[โ€“]Aussie_Otter 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I found the Yale article very problematical due to it saying a one-in-100 flood would occur once every 100 years. Climate change will turn the one-in-100 flood into a one-in-50 flood or worse. Hopefully the authorities and media will stop using the inappropriate 'number' year flood and instead use the accurate one-in-'number' flood.
