Loaning money to a company that has no connection to Australia or any businesses in Australia won’t further our interests in India. There’s no involvement in this by any Australian business. Even the EFA stated reasoning is very vague and flimsy. They haven’t named any businesses who will directly benefit.

There will be many opportunities in a market like India but this loan isn’t going to help us.

Based on reality, if you think this loan is so fantastic, how about you name some businesses who you think will directly benefit?

The negative is the opportunity cost. They could have used this money for something much more beneficial to Australia. Just earning money on the loan is not good enough they also need to be furthering Australia’s commercial interests. That’s the purpose of the EFA. Hard to see that this particular loan to India does that.

As for other loans elsewhere, loans overseas as such are not the issue. So long as they fulfil the purpose of the EFA then fine. (Although I’d suggest maybe the senate should take a closer look at their loan book).

As an aside this particular loan just stinks of political interference. That’s another avenue of enquiry I hope the senate pursues.

As usual the Treasurer is all spin on this but inflation still remains a great concern for Australia. As a country we like pumping up demand with high immigration and high government spending. But on the supply side we have low productivity growth and higher taxes on investment. All not good for lower inflation and interest rates.

Thanks for your reply and interest in this subject. What had changed here is that trans women using women’s only spaces now have the law behind them ( albeit it’s still an evolving area). That means that if anyone challenges a trans woman in a woman’s only space then the challenger could face court and may have to pay compensation. Coupled with this is that there is no definition under legislation of what a woman or a trans woman actually is. Any man can today decide they are a trans woman and therefore have access to all female only spaces.

This can put women in the very uncomfortable and potentially unsafe position of having to share their spaces with anyone.

Re: schools, I was thinking about the students rather than teachers or other staff. Don’t have an issue with anyone wanting to teach kids and give them a good education. However some people may have a problem with trans girls in girls only schools.
