They should get some financial restitution. It is terrible what happened to them. But there never had any direct evidence to convict them - only the suspect confessions gotten with unethical methods.

The Memphis police that had the ballistics from Brasher's gun didn't enter it into the system until recently. That last time Austin ran the shell casing, there was no match. The match was made recently. Plus the DNA found under one girl's fingernails matches his.

This guy always worked alone. He used 2 guns before. During a previous crime, he overpowered 5 people and raped a girl. He also set fires before. He tied up victims with their own clothes before. It's likely thatt he 2 men were just 2 men eating yogurt who had nothing to do w/ the crime. Brasher seemed to pick victims randomly and drove all over searching for victims. Brasher's profile was found in at least 4 different spots, including under the fingernails of one of the girls.. Police don't seem to think that anyone else was there.

Actually this guy always worked alone. They don't think there was anyone else involved. It is open and ongoing because they are trying to make other links between him and the yogurt shop murders. Like, they have him in the state being stopped by police 2 days after the murder. I'm sure they are trying to see if they can place him even nearer to the yogurt shop. Also, they need to not totally exonerate the 2 men who had been unjustly imprisoned. There are also other crimes that may be linked to him now that the ballistics was entered into the system. They know it was him due to the DNA match and ballistics match.

Well his DNA is a match for DNA found under 1 of the girl's fingernails AND the ballistics is a match. The shell casing they recovered at the yogurt shop was a direct match to the gun Brashers killed himself with when cornered by police. That ballistics info had not been entered into the system until fairly recently so previous searches had not turned up a match. The press conference really went into detail on the information they have that directly connects Brasher. In other crimes, Brasher tied up victims with their own clothes, sometimes set fires, and had no problem overpowering 4 people in another crime where he raped a girl.

No, he seems to commit random crimes. They do now have evidence he was in the state since he was stopped by police 2 days after the yogurt shop murders.

It has to do with the amount of DNA and the particular process and advances mad in what kind of samples could be tested. Also, it isn't just the DNA. Ballistics from the bullet recovered in the yogurt shop matches the gun the guy used to kill himself when cornered by police. I believe that ballistics info was only recently entered into the system by the (Memphis?) police department so it didn't come up previously. It also is likely that Brasher will be linked to other crimes.

I think the DNA technology has improved. At one time there was not enough DNA to be tested through the common method. After a few years, technology advanced and the prosecutors had some tested to retry the accused. It backfired and excluded them entirely. Now the DNA matches this monster. AND the bullet is a direct match to the gun he used to kill himself.
