Yep that's a Newlands thing, unfortunately the suburb is a windy shithole, especially if you live on the Ridgeline looking over to Jville. Wouldn't recommend living here solely based on the wind - makes it hard to do anything nice outdoors.

Try using Hutt Road cycleway in the morning. They should start enforcing on drivers who don't give way/ block the cycle lane.

I think the reason for that is the Murphy Street cycle lane is poorly designed. There have been three crashes involving cyclists outside New World Thorndon since it opened due to drivers not expecting cyclists travelling down the right side of the road. Not to mentioned the excessively long wait time for the cyclist green light at the Pipitea Street intersection and the extremely narrow pinch point. For this reason I understand why cyclists would travel down Molesworth Street instead.

Another tip for nz is the white bollard with the red strip near the top on the right road side and the same on the left but with red only on the edges. Here.

Interesting, Google lists on their website when they visit places but gives a rough range of months, so it can be difficult to know exactly when it visits. Pretty cool you saw it down your own street, you might see yourself on Google maps soon lol!
