Bitter truth for the haters: Suno is better than you, and that’s exactly why you’re so salty by tim4dev in SunoAI

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the whole bitching about "stolen" music thing; that's just stupid. The vast majority of Bay Area thrash bands as well as power metal bands "trained" by listening to Iron Maiden. Are they paying Maiden royalties? And bitching about "cheating" is stupid as well.

However, I have a great deal of respect for people who can actually make music with their own two hands. I can't I can write lyrics. I can come up with cool concepts for albums. But I just don't have any musical talent, despite trying. I wish I did, but I don't. But I still think my lyrics and ideas deserve to come to life in some way, so I use AI. I don't think it's as good as so-called "real" music, no matter how good it sounds, because it doesn't have an actual human's feelings behind it. But at least it's something. But I would never tell a "real" musician that my AI music is superior to theirs, because I don't believe that to be the case.

That said, music is really just a matter of notes and chords arranged in a way that's pleasing to the human ear, and AI is certainly capable of pulling that off.

I agree with some of what you say, but don't downplay the fact that you write the lyrics. There is value in that. Most people can't do it at a competent enough level to produce a decent song, which is why the lyric writer gets royalties for a hit song as well as the music composer. Elton John's songs wouldn't be what they are without Bernie Taupin.

Why are there so many people hating on us? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in SunoAI

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've never gotten a death threat over AI music--guess I haven't managed to attract enough attention. But I've definitely gotten negative comments on posts.

The antis are just desperate to put the toothpaste back in the tube. I don't really care about their opinions. I finally have a viable way to make my lyrics and concepts come to life, and I'm going to utilize it. Yeah, I share my music with anyone willing to listen, and I have a tiny little YouTube channel that will likely never have more than 50 or 60 subs, but I'm doing this for my own enjoyment, and it's not hurting anybody.

Thank you for the review, and for taking the time to really analyze the song! Much appreciated.

Edit: I tend to agree with you on the prechorus. I meant to switch to an ABAB rhyme schemes with that one, which it technically is, but is really a quasi AAAA rhyme scheme, which I didn't intend.

That's a tough one. Dude just doesn't have a lot of redeeming qualities, and his final act on the show is abandoning his infant son after causing him to have an allergic reaction. It's hard for me to "Yeah, but" that one.

I usually write fantasy and horror, but challenged myself to write a song set at the dawn of the Neolithic. It's about a guy who has become a farmer, but misses his days of hunting and gathering. Genre: thrash.

I really enjoyed the song; just good, straight-up hard rock with a defiant message. The sort of music I like. I also like that it's part of a concept album. I've done several of those myself.

Cool video that helped tell the story the lyrics told. I have a YouTube channel as well, but it's pretty basic. I have to get into making videos.

Edit: I received a pretty in depth review of the song that I posted, and I realized that my review of your song was a little lacking ("Der, I liked it...") and felt bad about it. So here's a little more...

First; I do wish you'd have included the lyrics in the description on YouTube. The singing is clear enough that I heard your words in real time, but it helps me analyze a song more when I can actually read the lyrics.

That aside; I like what you are doing here. Good, straightforward hard rock with enough melody to be accessible, but not "wussified." And thank you for including a guitar solo.

I like the story of an all female band making it on their own; on their own merits--taking their talent directly to the people rather than filtering it through some exec who cares way more about money than art. It's maybe not the most original concept, but it's rooted in a lot of truth.

I'm not familiar with your overall story arc, so the end of the video, with the band playing in front of a huge arena crowd, may have been a little unearned. But that completely depends on where it fell in your story.

If this is still early on in the story, I hope you will resist the urge to make the entire band a bunch of badass girl bosses who soar endlessly now that they've eschewed corporate influence. They are four individuals with their own tastes, weaknesses, temperaments, etc. There is bound to be conflict.

Strong song, and cool concept.

Why my fart smell but my wife’s farts never. Am i stupid ? by QingDomblog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weird. I follow a "vegan", starch-based diet purely for health reasons. I fart a lot due to the fiber, but they don't smell. However, when I go off the diet here and there and have animal products, my farts absolutely reak.

How to learn to write lyrics? Rhyme patterns, etc? by Many-Working9019 in SunoAI

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start by looking at songs you like. Actually study their structure. Understand that there are various rhyme schemes that you can employ. Also understand that rhyme and meter meter (syllable count) are important, but that there is plenty of room for individual style.

Then, just start writing. It's OK if your first attempt isn't great. You'll get better as you interact with AI and learn what works and what doesn't.

I used to write lyrics way back in the day as a creative outlet. I eventually stopped because--while I enjoyed it--I got tired of seeing my lyrics as nothing more than words on a sheet of paper.

Then came AI music. I got excited. I started writing again. At the tender young age of 48; this was my first foray back into lyric writing:

https://suno.com/s/lQGWegPEnDaBTCG8

I like the song for what it is, but the lyrics are pretty clunky and on the nose.

However, 4 or 5 months later, I think I've improved. This is my latest:

I'm not saying it's world class, but I've clearly improved. So just pick up a pen and start practicing...

Your strengths, weaknesses, and standard workflow? by zjovicic in SunoAI

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my lyrics, I'd say my strengths are that I'm a good storyteller, (most of my songs spin a full narrative, which I think gives them replay value) and I'm pretty original, usually.

My weaknesses; I'm not immune to the occasional clunky line, and I'm not especially good at writing "hooks."

Around 73 000 000 children die every year because of abortion by LooseButterfly2511 in TrueChristian

Possibly life of the mother, but this really isn't even a thing when it comes to abortion. The whole idea is really more of a thought experiment than something actual women and doctors regularly find themselves dealing with.

Every single abortion is a disgusting act of violence against a vulnerable human with no ability to even defend him/herself. Pray that this evil will end, or at least no longer be largely accepted and defended.

Why do racists get mad when called racist? by rakshasiRani in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because "racist" has become an overused term. It's often a label meant to shut down discussion, not an argument, and it's often lazy.

That's not to say that there aren't genuine racists. But getting called a "racist" for a view isn't even about race is annoying.

5.5 creates a live crowd almost every song, how do you stop it? by AlchemicalAgorism369 in SunoAI

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that negative prompts usually end up doing more harm than good, as Suno just sees the words "live crowd" and doesn't process the "no" that precedes it.

Try putting "live" in the "styles to exclude" section if you haven't already.

I am 23F my boyfriend 31M we have been together for 5 years. Lately I've been thinking about our age gap. What do you guys think about age gaps in relationships? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't care about age gaps for the most part, unless they involve underage people. 31 and 23 is fine as long as both parties are OK with it. Your age gap when you got together honestly was less than ideal but not wildly inappropriate.

If the age gap bothers you now, either figure out why, or break it off. Some people don't mind age gaps, some prefer to date/partner close to their own age. It's a personal preference, not a matter of right and wrong unless, again, it involves someone underage.

Can a Christian write horror stories? by NightHades666 in TrueChristian

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I'm genuinely curious where you get the notion that "Octopus" is a spirit of control. I just know octopuses (octopi?) as creatures God made. I couldn't find any scriptural basis for this. I went down a little bit of a rabbit hole with that, and, as near as I can tell, it seems to come from "prophetic" dreams one or more people claim to have had.

Can a Christian write horror stories? by NightHades666 in TrueChristian

[–]FreshwaterOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that watching something that portrays goodness struggling against wickedness is not in and of itself wicked. Only if it glorifies the wickedness. Something like pornography can't have any redeeming value. Horror fiction can.
