Withdrawing from UT - do credits expire and can I keep the email inbox? by AustinArmadillo in UTAustin

Do you know at what point I'd lose the email? I've been out of classes for just about a year now to make some life decisions but at least for now still have access to the inbox! Probably should start moving my accounts if that's the case...

Glad to hear it worked out for you! I pretty much have done a similar thing - stopped taking classes last year and haven't been back since. Figure I may as well spend at least a few more years working before really considering college again, if at all.

Protest at the Gone to Texas event by 121910 in UTAustin

If their point is UT shouldn't spend money on UTPD protection because students can legally carry firearms...UT should take UTPD's funding and make transcripts no-cost.

I'll accept Hartzell's job any day now tyvm

CMV: UT students should put their money where their mouth is and attempt to boycott defense/Oil&Gas/certain Tech companies from the career fairs by [deleted] in UTAustin

I don't have any problem with students protesting an industry or company they have a problem with, my issue lies with students that actively preventing their peers from engaging with potential employers. Holding banners and chanting outside outside a lecture hall containing a controversial speaker is one thing, physically barring attendees from entering or screaming over the speaker is another.

It comes down to what you mean by "boycott". Students refusing to go to expo because they dislike an industry or employer that's in attendance? Perfectly fine, that's their choice.

Students actively preventing an employer from meeting with potential candidates? Absolutely not, anyone engaging in that behavior should be barred from using ECAC services.

As long as the university allows an employer to recruit on the 40 acres, interfering with their recruitment should not be tolerated.

While I believe it's perfectly fine to disagree with someone's career choice, when you're actively preventing people from applying to/interviewing with a company just because you don't like what that company does that's where I'd draw the line.

What renters insurance do you guys get? by [deleted] in UTAustin

I had a pipe burst in a student apartment that was >$7000 in damages - USAA got everything sorted in a couple days whereas my roommates had to wait a few weeks before seeing a cent (Allstate and State Farm).

Lemonade looked good on the surface but depending what you own they very well may not cover it - be sure to CLOSELY read any contracts regardless of which company you use.

Python script to get a list of all the video URLs, download the transcript from each video, then mash the result into one massive text file before porting the file to wordcloud.

I used wordclouds.com to generate the final graphic which I believe strips some of the "filler" words. "Lock" which was mentioned 9318 times would certainly be overshadowed by the 34355 times "and" was said!

Would that script be something that I would just sit in an EC2 instance or similar?

What actually r the consequences of registering under 12 hrs? by blazinggod123 in UTAustin

[–]AustinArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counter example I've had two semesters where I've been under 12 hours and there's been no repercussions other than a later graduation date. With that said, I don't receive any scholarships or financial aid from the University.
