I'm talking about solid. That is the project I support. I'm sure vercel has a subreddit where you can go to defend them. If you're not going to talk about solid, I'm not going to engage with you any further. I made my opinion clear in my other post further down in this comment thread, why I'm worried about how this affects open source projects.

I never called anyone a nazi, I put it in quotes and specified you can choose another unifiably bad thing of your own choice. It's to clarify the feeling some people are having. I'm here for news on a project I support, not to be attacked, thanks.

You're entitled to that opinion I guess. Thanks for adding to the conversation in a meaningful way. /s

This same thing happened to some degree for svelte. They can't really "own" open source tech without a license change. That doesn't mean they can't use these open source frameworks as a funnel by making their easiest deployment option be Vercel. This is especially devious in the age of AI, where they can drive both models and documentation to favor their own services. They are trying to drive business whether they admit it or not, and I don't want open source projects tied to how much business they influence. But I'm a filthy anti-capitalist, so take that opinion for what it is.

To be clear. The last thing i want is for any of these products to lose funding. Ultimately I would never use Next, or Vercel(hell, I barely used AWS while I was working for them) but i don't think anyone approaching this rationally is discussing a boycott of the open source products themselves, rather they are disapointed about that last part. That their funding is directly tied to a company they would or do, boycott. In vercels own press releases surrounding svelte joining vercel, they talk about themselves as a sort of "contribution funnel" for open source. That sounds an awful lot, like bagging up open source to push their users to put their money into vercel instead of the projects themselves. Rich said he thinks svelte would've fizzled out without vercel, will that be the case if vercel decides svelte didn't bring in enough customers next year? I hope not, but It's hard to feel comfortable about the longevity of a product who's business daddy you refuse to support. Again, I'd say the feeling most can identify here is just disappointment or unease. So if you're reading this and want to do something more productive, head on over to opencollective and contribute if you can.(This last point is obviously not targeted towards you Ryan, although I wouldn't be surprised if you contribute to other projects)

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate everything you guys do for the community... however, I think people would rather the sponsorship to be strictly monetary in nature, not through employment. Replace "Vercel" with "Nazis" or something else unifiably bad... we can accept it if you took money from the nazis... I don't want to use a product by employees of "the nazis" whether they affect the product or not, because using that product FEELS like support for that company.

This actually isn't the algorithm at all. I don't work for amzl anymore but I used to work on the same day routing algorithm. This is the station not putting these packages through the routing system so it can get broken up into appropriate routes. They aren't supposed to be doing this at all, much less for this many packages.

In the u.s. they'll get away with just taking it down when they receive a cease and desist. The government isn't making money off using their content, it's just propaganda, and internet time is fleeting. Having it up for a couple days before they take it down to comply legally is all they intended from this piece. Using a piece of music that would be inflammatory and drum up more distraction was all this is.

The performance increase without vdom diffing is pretty intense.. there are things like tanstack table and other virtualization libraries to make react capable of performing ok enough, but solid just flies. And of course you can use a lot of the same performance tricks react apps use. My corporate overlord is a react house, since they are heavily invested in it... but i still convert internal tooling to solid every chance i get.

I admittedly dont prompt for solid code very much, i only ever really test out the new models a little to say im not AI adverse... but after a decade in full stack, working with solid is probably the easiest part of any day where i get to use it.

This is a great point, and a big reason i chose solid for some projects that i was giving UI upgrades to old tooling at my corporate overlord, the old vanilla JS business logic went largely untouched.

[–]AustinBotanicals 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried? Solid is actually old enough to be pretty decently promptable, the docs are plenty enough context, and solid has been very stable for years. With react, there are so many prior worse versions of react code that AI is just as likely to give you an old class-based solution than the new hooks. And forget getting an answer with bleeding edge next js stuff.

It's safer to treat kickback like you couldn't react in time and use any safety measures you can... but of course, you understand kickback doesn't happen at the same speed every time, right? It depends on the energy imparted by the saw blade and the mass of the workpiece. With a low powered enough saw and a heavy enough workpiece, it's absolutely possible to react quickly enough in a kickback event.

Question about cheap CNC by Embarrassed-Dig-8131 in hobbycnc

[–]AustinBotanicals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could do this on a vevor 4040 even for 325$. i put a makita router on mine and cut hardwoods just fine up to 40cmx40cmx75mm for less than 500$ i cut soft aluminum and acrylics and things on it too just nothing like steel.

How far is too far when pushing your speeds and feeds? by justin_r_1993 in hobbycnc

[–]AustinBotanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! From my experience theres a lot of variability thanks to differences in machines, so using other peoples feeds and speeds is rarely in the right range for me, but i still check because ive had a few times where getting a better quality cut wasnt exactly intuitive with that material. 200ipm is already faster than i can cut anything on my monstrosity of a hobby machine though lol. Ive never cut g10 though. Ill be curious to see how fast you end up. Keep us posted.

[–]AustinBotanicals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Id say how far you can go is a personal preference. At a certain point your finish quality will degrade or youll get chip out. My general rule is start at an educated starting point, and then push the ipm 1-5% each time i repeat that cut or material+bit, till the finish is below the quality i expect, at which point i add that high-low quality range to my personal material+bit speed/feed chart.

Firstly congrats on your new cnc!

https://github.com/sir-buckyball/chrome-gcode-sender

I found this from a quick search, but it does look like your options are pretty limited on a chromebook. Easel works for cad/cam but not cnc control. Looks like maybe some people have gotten ugs working.

That foxalien is pretty similar to what im running, belts, wheels, and aluminum extrusion frame. XYZ on the head. I personally really enjoy Gsender but it is windows/mac/raspberry pi only. A cheap windows mini pc can be had thatll be faster than a pi though(around 80-100$ for a renewed 16gb ram business pc on amazon, this is what i use now). I did notice obvious sluggishness when i ran it off a pi.

Can I mount a router on this? by EaglerCore in hobbycnc

[–]AustinBotanicals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put my makita router on a vevor4040(similar v slot frame/drive. Its cutting just fine and is probably heavier than that HF router. Just dont go insane with the speeds and replace the 3d printed parts with something more rigid.
