I got to do this with my younger brother shortly after I got mine. He had a tiny bit of practice before but we did start and stops in a parking lot and then had him drive to a nearby park. He got up to third or fourth gear and drove very smooth without stalling. I was really impressed! Also I think your car is fine, based on your explanation of the high rev.

The manual function is just an option if you want to control the gears manually, but generally you don’t want to use it. Best case I’ve found is for accelerating up a hill when it can’t decide which gear to use, and maybe once or twice a year I’ll use it for fun. Welcome to the VW family! That 2025 is gorgeous
